pentium m watercooling

I wouldn't. The difference between air and water on the pentium m is little to none even in overclocks (the reason the difference in temps between air and water are so little because the processor doesn't put out much heat even overclocked). So unless you have a phase I would suggest air.
 
Just look for a chipset water block. I know the fans for a dothan are pretty much chipset fans. Anyone else agree/disagree?

if you do watercool a dothan, BE CAREFUL! those cores are sooo fragile, it will crunch like a oyster cracker under a shoe.

my friend went dothan. and he made a shim for his dothan so he woldnt crack the core, becaue he said "The cores on these dothans are fr more fragile then an axp core or a64 core, and i dont wanna crush it" so trust me man, crushing a core isnt fun.

oh, no... dont get me wrong. i dont distrust your warning or anything. i was just curious if you actually saw it happen or something. i'm very new to the watercooling/overclocking thing (haven't done it, yet.... the dothan will be my first try at it). i was kinda asking for some suggestions.
 
sorry if i came off defensive man. i just would hate to see you crush such a beautiful chip. Those dothans usually wont even do good with water, you just need good aircooling, and itll work fine. On stock cooling, they usually hit 2.7ghz, which benches like a 3.1ghz fx55. so with a nice swiftech hsf or thermalright SLK-948U will be like watercooling any other chip.

You should try one of those big hsf plus a 90 watt peltier. You would probably get as good temps as a phase change on a A64 or P4 system.
 
it will work, but require modding, and for cpus without integrated heatspreaders, it wont work as well. the xp120/90 require an ihs for better heat transfer.
 
dunno what ihs means...

so, those heatsinks you posted are designed for cpus without heatspreaders?

ihs = intergrated heatspreader. and yea, the swiftech has springs, so you can mount it perfectly for chips without an ihs, the zalmans have screws you can use, the SLK-948U i know will work, ive seen a dothan with one on it. and the S-pal 8952t's will work with it too.
 
should i go with the new boards or should i just get an asus p4c800-e deluxe?

i'm wondering because a) these new dothan boards are expensive as balls, b) they're atx micro, c) they're pci-e and i have a better chance of getting an agp than pci-e...

i'm trying to think long-term... and pci-e just makes more sense to me... but these motherboards dont...
 
yea, the new 7800 series stuff will be agp, and that series will last atleast a year, and ati wont let nvidia take the whole agp market, so they will make their cards agp compatable. Eventually you wont see agp cards, but im saying agp will be around for another 2 years atleast.

by then, they should also have converters that dont sacrifice performance... and/or more boards with dual compatibility
 
theres already a converter from pci-e to agp, made by albatron. it uses the hsi bridge seen on the 6600gt's which doesnt have a decreasing effect on performance. and on computex they have a mobo that had both pci-e and agp, on seperate channels given no performance loss.
 
yeah, i know it's out... that's why i said the thing about it not sacrificing performance :) from the articles and whatnot that i read, there was up to a 10% loss in performance when it went from agp to pci-e

Something else you might try is the ASUS P4GD1 which is s478 w/PCIe (915P chipset). Get the CT-479 adapter and everything should be fine :cool: (with Bios update of course).
 
a 730 will hit 2.7 easily. if it hits 2.7ghz, it considered a crappy ocer, as most 730's hit 2.8ghz+. the 760 has a 15x multi, and booting at 3ghz on air, not gonna happen, even on water, its not gonna happen. the 740 might be a good choice too. i know someone who got a 730 to 2.7ghz on stock air, and is buying a new one cause its a crappy ocer.
 
also, the best dothan board out is the p4c800e-dlx. people have already used it, and have all the tricks worked out, theres a new bios coming out allowng for full overclocking, and it will soon be the dfi lanparty 250gb ut of the intel p-m world.
 
well, i have a p-m 760 already... i paid $285 for it (brand new). are you suggesting i sell it?
 
how much do the 760's retail for? if they retail for about 300ish, then yea id sell it and get one of the 730's. the lowest multi you can get is 15 on the 760's, so booting into windows at 200x15, its gonna be tough on the chip. and its gonna be an easier hop from a 533mhz fsb to an 800mhz fsb then a 400mhz fsb to a 800mhz fsb.
 
i just got off the phone with my buddy nate over at legitreviews... he said to keep the 760 and just change the multi using clockgen. i think i'm just gonna hang onto this... i can always sell it later if i need to.

i also think i'm gonna get the p4gd1 mobo.
 
I cant wait until Yonah comes out. I think it will offer groundbreaking performance and the smoothness to Multitask efficantly.
