You have to admit the guys over at DARPA are free thinkers when it comes to its out-of-this-world projects for the Army. In this installment, DARPA is about to combine the attributes of Terminator with Avatar to produce a mechanical warrior controlled remotely by their human counterparts. Sound like a new science fiction movie plot? Yeah, well it appears that the guys over at DARPA watch a good many of them for pointers. :D

It sounds like the Agency’s after an even more sophisticated robot-soldier synergy. They don’t specify the means, but DARPA’s already funded successful investigations into robots that are controlled with mind power alone.

So it might be ok for the first mission (if you like "new tech"), but then when you try again with a smaller screen it's total crap?

They get funding for shit like this, and NASA can't get enough money to continue their Mars projects...

One step closer to Supreme Commander/ Total Annihilation which ever you prefer as long as skynet doesn't become self aware we might make it:)

I think we want to make sure NASA learns how to do their unit conversions correctly before we finance a manned space flight to Mars.

That's HRP-2, the latest is HRP-4c.

Western Robot = Terminator

Eastern Robot = NK-1124

There's a sad truth to this tho. While robot R&D in japan is pretty advanced. There's really no budget for maintaining or sustaining them since they're mostly privately funded by research companies. As revealed in the Fukushima incident, Japan DID have robots for the situation (several with each meant for specific functions in the plant in fact), but they were taken apart as soon as their development was completed because of the cost of maintaining the robots and trained personnel (geez, you'd think the nuclear companies would have atleast paid for their maintenance!). The one that eventually went in was a mass produced, general purpose robot.

The US side on the other hand, such projects fall under "National Defense Budget". So any kind of robot, regardless of how expensive the development is, is paid for by US public and then has a good chance of being adopted and maintained, also fully paid for out of public taxes. It's got a good chance of actually surviving beyond the development phase.

So basically like the movie Surrogates where the soldiers are using the surrogates in combat.
