Does anybody know where I can find more details on the initial batch of Penryn processors?

That 9450 looks tastey, worth the wait methinks.

Prices are per cpu when bought in a tray of a 1000 so retail will be higher.
 
Anybody know how the Q9300 stacks up against the Q6600?

I'm getting a lot of parts for Christmas. Maybe the cpu will not be final until January. I hope we see an expected day soon.
 
I must admit, I'm a little disappointed with the Q9300. It's too bad the cache is "only" 6MB. It looks like its performance will not be appreciably different from the Q6600, but it's priced the same. Yeah, the clock is slightly higher, and it has SSE4, but the cache is smaller. The Q9450 or the E8200 (with overclocking) are probably the ones to buy.
 
I have my finger twitching to buy a Q6600 and overlocking it in late November, but that Q9450 does look nice. However, when I read benchmarks of processors and look at graphs and such, at my resolution of 1680x1050 there isn't much FPS difference at all when running at high details on the newer processors. Maybe 1-2 frame difference from a stock Q6600 and QX6850 (so probably not much of a difference from a Q9450 either). So, even though it is better, I may just get a Q6600 and overclock it so I can enjoy my winter break playing some new games :cool:.
 
The Q9300 people are bitching about is still going to match the Q6600 in performance, while probably hitting 3.6+ more consistently using less power and pushing less heat to do it. Unless time is an issue, wait for the 45nm chips.

The other thing to notice...the highest number in use is only x6xx...intel is clearly leaving room to expand to the 3.5+ range, numberwise. I doubt they would have trouble with yields at that range either on the new process, once its refined a bit.

With some software yes it will.

Personally I want to see how the Q9300 oc's as well as the Q9450.I encode a lot of video and want the SSE4 capabilites as well.

I will grab one of the two and a newer board,and then dump my current chip and mobo
into another gaming system.
 
actually, liquid nitrogen is, and has always been, available at the egg....

j/k, but that wouldve been awesome.

im curious to see what the temps and oc's look like on air. LN setups are fun but have very little value to me in seeing what practical setups would be like with penryn
