PeerIX - Official thread

I got my invite, thanks! I'm going to need a little handholding setting up a Vyatta vm appliance in vmware workstation. I still have yet to figure out if my MI424WR supports GRE passthrough.

So I am going to now have to divide up his ones to everyone? At this rate I will just be able to keep them to myself.

Greedy Bastard. Speaking of which you should check your router and explain why we can't freaking have a tunnel to stay up

WTF? When I left this morning our tunnel has never went down. I will have to check the logs when I get home. I am having the same problems on Josh (Snuggles) PEER. The other Josh (bsdrocker) we haven't dropped yet from what I can tell.

I bet you it is my bitch ass NAT-T setup from ATT (dsl provider). You sure you don't have any ACL's blocking UDP port 4500? Hopefully I will have a static by next week.

Are we reconnecting when it goes down?

1 - not sure either why it's down
2 - i have nothing blocking 4500
3 - yes get back up so we can peer

X, you didn't tell me we got strippers if we peered!

Hell, I woulda called in sick today! As is, I'm running on 4 hours of sleep after trying to get everything configured last night... coffee is my friend today...

Hey guys I was perusing the forums and came across this and I am potentially interested. I have access to a Juniper Netscreen 50 that I just updated to 5.4r14 and that's as far as I've gotten lol.

My plan is to use this as my home network firewall/router, I use a linux/iptables box at the moment, and while it works fine for what I do, I want to move on to some more advanced stuff. I don't know a whole lot about things beyond the basics, so this sounds like a perfect place to come and learn.

From everything I can tell, it appears that the Netscreen 50 will support this project?

I sent an email to the group address to join up. haven't heard anything back yet. i'm still gathering hardware, but i'd like to get in on any discussions that are going on.

i dont know what this is at this time, but i think in a few days (hopefully) it will make sense when i come back to this thread. so im bookmarking and subscribing

Joining the project has been an amazing learning experience for me.

As long as you're willing to teach yourself and learn, the team will help you get to where you need to be. Just don't expect to be lead by the hand; but as long as you have access to good study resources and the appropriate hardware to fool around with, you should be able to figure everything out.

Is this project still active?

I just signed up on the forum.peerixproject.com and am about to send a PM for an invite.

Im getting a 7206 here soon that I will hopefully be able to get up and running.

It's being redone, I'll give you access to the forums. But, you don't want to use that 7206 as your edge router. That old NPE you got is ridiculously slow.

I wouldn't want to use it at all, or its just not recommenced?

It has the NPE-225 which looks like was the fastest NPE for the non VXR version of the 7200s.

This is just a small home network Im not really too worried about it going slow. I was actually using a 2514 for my router for a while so this is going to be a huge improvement over that.

I found a nice chart comparing the different routers http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/downloads/765/tools/quickreference/routerperformance.pdf

Ah, my bad. I was looking at another model.:-x That NPE should work, depending on how recent of an IOS you can get on it.

Sounds interesting... don't have any Cisco routers kicking around though unfortunately. Could probably get pfSense\Vyatta going in a VM, if that works? Oh, and I'm Australian... so that could be a no-no right there :p...

So, how to join PeerIX? Thinking to join this project. But, i'm from Malaysia and my internet is using dynamic IP. Thanks.
