That's been the rule since day one, nothing personal. If you have to sign up somewhere to access registration, it's not open to all by definition.
 
If you will notice all of the stickies have sign up pages readily available, meaning you can go straight to them without registering for the site itself to gain access.
 
You don't really expect them to bend the rules for PDX do you? QuakeCon is the same date, so they're rather have people go there than PDX. Even if PDX is a better deal.

The rules have not been changed since PDXLan 4.05 and I dont distribute to minors...
though I could make a new local group, add you into the local group and give that local
group access.

Nope sorry, I love BF2, but Quakecon takes precedent over PDXLAN and since they are at the same time.... Quakecon wins.

its because they can't stop it, there was soo much leeching going on at 4.05. I remember sitting there from like 2am-5am going through all of the windows shares and pulling down many GB worth of stuff

That is definately more prizes than quakecon has for standard non-pro gamers (because the pros always take the top prize money and most of us would like a little hardware schwag).

Looks like fun. I like the quakecon atmosphere, maybe you should try it before you knock it. I wish PDXLan wasn't on the same weekend and I would have made the trip. I've got lots of vacation stored up.

The PDXLAN dates were set LONG before Quakecon dates. The Quakecon directors were notified of these dates before they picked theirs. They decided to hold their LAN the same dates as PDXLAN... So it's them you should be blaming for having to choose. If they would have decided on a different date, then gamers could have gone to both. But apparently they would rather crap on those that support them.
