PCI Wireless Card

That will depend more on the quality of the antenna, and card so that isnt necesarrily a 1:1 kinda thing..

Almost as/more importantly at this moment is going to be, what operating system is this going to be used with?

The cards from the link show up to w7 so that should be fine, but if he/you go w8 make sure theres drivers.

If its a pretty new OS you may be better off with just a decent usb wireless dongle like one of these:

BUFFALO AirStation HighPower N150 Wireless USB Adapter - WLI-UC-GNHP

or

TP-LINK TL-WN722N (this one is probably a bit more powerful range wise)

Otherwise from the originals, if you want to go internal still, the Rosewill's should be good. Though it may be good to get a USB one for longevity/ability to use with other devices at will.

It's going to be Windows XP. I would love to set them up with Windows 7, but the motherboard is a ULI chipset that was active when nVidia bought ULi, and all us users got 3dfx'ed and never got new drivers after that point, which was right when Vista came to market.

So XP it is.
