PCI-E to AGP?

I have seen a special device that allows an AGP card to plug into a PCI-E slot. Is the reverse even possible?
 
That would be a nice feature seeing that in the future AGP cards might be harder to come by, especially on the high end.
 
yeah I'd like that, if they made a cheap adapter(that didn't limit the card's performance) it would be better for those wanting to slowly upgrade systems. Like me and my socket a mobo, I could buy a pci-e card with a pcie-agp adaptor now, then in the future when I upgrade my processor and mobo I can use the pci-e card.
 
It looks as if you have to remount the bracket to fit the adapter. Might scare some people off.
 
nVidia's bridge chip works both ways - it can make an AGP chip work on PCIe (the PCX series) as well as let you mount a PCIe chip on an AGP card (6600GT) so the technology is out there.

I just don't see any real market for something like this.

In addition the PCI-E to AGP bridge chips that you see used on the 6xxx series of AGP cards is mounted "extremely" close to the GPU and the AGP slot (This is why you see design differences for the cooling solutions). The bridge chip has to transfer quickly and trace length can introduce problems.

I think this is a factor, AGP can always be adapted easier to an inefficient adapter as 8x AGP boards can run as 4X or slower and still "work".

The AGP to PCI-E solution is not going to garner you great benchies, just allows you to keep your card for a little while longer abiet at a lower performance.
