I plan on getting a geforce 9600gt. My powersupply only has one 4-pin power connector.

Is it ok to only use one half of a Y connector? This is to change the 4-pin into 6-pin PCIE.

How do you only have 1 4 pin connector? Most have at least 4 molex. You are better off buying a molex daisy chain adapter that lets you plug it in, then it has another lead coming off, that way you can use both. I would suggest using both and use a CD Rom drive to daisy chain it off, you want your HD to have it's own lead if possible.

I really think you need 2 4 pins then. Even my radeon 1900 (3 year old card) takes 2 4 pin. If you don't plug them in you'll probably get a screen on boot or a warning once you install drivers, saying you have insufficient power.
