hey all, just a question, wanting to upgrade soon, need to for my games design course and modeling for unreal3, a mate of mine said to hold up for PCI-E 2 to come out before i upgrade, but surly its a way off?

anyone got any info on PCI-E 2?
 
Sure you can upgrade to a PCIE 2 motherboard. Currently the only Video card that is PCIE2 is the 8800 GT.PCIE2 video cards work in PCIE motherboards and PCIE video cards work in PCIE2 video cards.The main issue is that Video cards are not even coming close to maxing out the PCI bandwidth. So you do not need the new motherboards yet.

In my opinion the ABIT IP35 Pro is a wonderful PCIE motherboard that is a good overclock and has lots of features.
 
If PCIe 2.0 is important to you, buy an X38 motherboard or wait for the 780i boards from Nvidia. Right now you won't notice any large difference between the 1.0/2.0, but you might in the future if you hold onto your motherboard for a couple years.

Asus p5k is perfect for ocing too. q6600 @3.6 :)
 
I don't think cost should determine your purchase. Just because its expensive doesn't mean it will suit your needs. Find out what you features you need and/or want and find a motherboard best suits that. But I will say a motherboard inst the place to cut corners on. :)
 
PCIe 2: even more stupidly unneeded amounts of bandwidth than PCIe. Being shoved out the door into computers near you. Coming soon.

I know what you mean (Check sig). 3.82 is max. 3.2ghz @ stock voltage w/ vdroop mod. Cooler is TRUE 120. Back to the topic.
