PCI bus speeds.

I'm overclocking an older system (no PCI locks) and was wondering how high is it safe to go on the PCI bus?

From what I have read the only thing that would really be in danger of failing is the hard drives, but never really foudn any suggested max speeds or anything.
 
I think it all depends on your hard drives and what you have in the PCI slots. The PCI bus runs at 33MHz, and I've been able to overclock several machines to 37.5MHz, but that is as far as I'll go. You may have a difference experience.

I've been running at 36.6mhz, but I'd really like to make the jump up to 38mhz, but not if you all think it will hurt the drives.
 
I've gone as high as 41 MHz on the PCI. Video card started corrupting the display, but the RAID-0 ran without problems.

It all depends on what hardware you have; you'll only find out by trying.
 
dont do it if you have sata hard drives, it could corrupt the data on them if they're plugged into an onboard sata controller (and a pci one might get screwed by the oc, so....)
 
I was able to run 39.5 mhz PCI bus with no problems before. That also equals a 78.5 mhz AGP bus speed. You have to watch both. In some cases whatever is running on the PCI bus may crap out first or sometimes your AGP vid card will crap out first. It all depends on the componants you have.

Running a 39.5 PCI bus is actually rather high. Most people ran into problems a while before they got that high.

 
Well, I have a Geforce 4, Audigy 2, a TV Tuner..

The harddrives are a fairly old 40GB WD drive, and a fairly new 80GB Maxtor, both on onboard IDE...

It has all been running fine at the 36.66mhz PCI bus but dont want to kill the drives, although the increase in bus speed would raise performance quite a bit on this old machine...

Maybe I just need to keep it as is...
