I have two sticks of the above memory that appears to be PC3200 memory with everything in the right place except that the "slot" part way down the stick lines up with the one in my socket but seems to be thinner.....hence the memory won't fit.

Now I'm assuming that I should therefore not try, but I got to thinking is this just a proprietry trick used by the likes of HP etc to ensure you have to buy their high price memory? It seems ram that would fit my board would also fit theirs as the slot would be wider. Has anyone ever tried widening the slot or should I forget it and buy another couple of sticks.......

PC3200R

Registered ECC ram for a server, it will NOT work even if you do manage to bang it in with a big hammer. Sorry.

Ah that explains it, its not out of a server but out of a desktop, but a high end one that was upgraded.

hmm that stuff still sorta expensive someone would probally want it for upgrading an older server. EBAY is calling ;)
