I bought a new Corsair vx450 to run a recently purchased vid card. Problem is that when I install my new PSU, the computer won't boot. When I go to power on, I get a brief 2sec startup, then an instant shutdown; I noticed that my power-on LED flashes in 5sec increments. I re-installed my old PSU, and everything works fine. I've tried the "jump-start method," and the fan spins. Could it still be DOA, even thought the jumpstart works? I'm pretty sure it's NOT a compatability issue as the power connectors on both psu's are exactly the same. I'm lost

There are actually occasional compatibility issues with some PSUs and some motherboards. Not every motherboard or PSU is built correctly to ATX specifications.

Yeah IIRC, the same thing happened the Abit IP35 Pro and any Seasonic made PSU or maybe just Corsair PSUs.

What are your specs?

I had a PSU compatibility problem with the 750watt Silverstone PSU and the EVGA 680i SLI boards. Tried several of each and ended up having to get a PC Power & Cooling Turbocool 610 in order to resolve the issue.

actually I had a BFG do that to me recently, I sent it bank and bought a corsair instead. works great.

but bad PSU do happen, I would RMA it for a new one

specs -
ibm mobo ???
i865 chipset
p4
2gb ballistix
80g HD
cd/dvd

the pin and wiring configuration is almost the same, except that my new psu, the vx450, has two orange wires going into one pin, whereas my old psu only has one. aside from that, identical. i've searched extensively for my mobo op manual, but can't find it, online either
