PC Will Not Post after Getting Violent with Keyboard

So I have on of those desks that has a built-in tray table for a keyboard, and I put my small form factor PC on top of it.

I've had my PC for two months and it's been absolutely great until now. I shoved my keyboard into the desk pretty violently, and BOOM, the PC just turns off. So I go ahead and take it apart, check the CPU for damage (it didn't look damaged), reseat the heatsink, take out the GPU and put it back in and boot with a minimum configuration of mobo, CPU, and 1 stick of RAM with no dice. The PSU fan comes on when I turn the power switch on, but when I plug in the gPU to test, it will spin for a half second and stop. I don't understand what's wrong; if it was the power supply, its fan wouldnt keep spinning.

I'm guessing I have to RMA something to the manufacturer. How do I determine what the problem is?
 
I would still blame the power supply first, even if the fan comes on.

The video card might have come unseated slightly and got fried somehow. Thats the only other thing I can think of. Can you get a spare video card or power supply to test with?
 
Plugged in another power supply with a basic config out of the case on a table (CPU, 1 ram stick only with onboard graphics) and the same problem happened. I plugged in a POS 350W PSU, but the PSU still works.

I guess it's time to call up Gigabyte.

Is there any chance the CPU is broken too?
 
Yep, Saitek's USB keyboard.

I'm fortunate enough to have advised a friend as to what to buy for his rig a month before I bought mine, so his parts are all interchangeable with mine :-D

I'll bring my GPU, PSU, and to be thorough, I should bring the CPU as well....

I'll keep you guys informed. I should be done by tonight.

What kind of customer service quality should I expect from these companies? Anybody dealt with them before?
 
Don't get violent with computer hardware...it only leads to more head aches.

To understand what you did better, did you keyboard hit the PC or was it only the keyboard that you got violent with?
 
A shorted out USB device (cut/pinched cord from being crushed by keyboard drawer) will do exactly what he is describing. Unplug the offending device and all should be ok. (knock on wood)
 
The keyboard never hit the computer. The keyboard's plugged into the back and its cable is routed through a little hole into the tray. I just shoved the tray table IN, meaning that I shouldn't have torn or frayed any wiring. I think the shock made the GPU wobble a little bit too much and broke both it and the mobo at the same time.... I hope it's not that, but I don't know what else to think. I don't see anything unplugged or anything, and it's not grounding out...

I recall trying to start the PC in its basic configuration without the keyboard, and that was obviously a dud. I'll try again later (I'm at work right now). Why would that just shut down the PC like that and prevent it from starting back up?
 
Because if it causes a short, that will prevent the entire machine from even POSTing. I had a similar story a few weeks ago--I couldn't get my machine to POST after a CPU/RAM upgrade. It was the most infuriating thing because I was swapping the old parts back in and out and whatnot to try to isolate the problem but nothing made even a dent in the problem--fans spun up, no POST.

Turns out the problem was that my 4-year-old had, while my back was turned, accidentally dropped a screw into my on-its-side computer case and it had gotten lodged between the mounting plate and the motherboard on the back side--so I couldn't easily see it. I was stark raving insane for two days trying to figure out the problem and just when I was about to take the whole motherboard out, I took the mounting plate/mobo out and saw the problem screw--the way it was pinned between the plate and the mobo it had caused a short.

Screw out. POST. All problems solved.

I don't know whether you have a short or not, but my symptoms were that the PSU fan spun up (as did all the other fans), you could see juice going to the keyboard, but no POST. I agree with the other people here--unless you actually hit your computer case with your keyboard (directly and severely), it is very, very, very unlikely that you damaged your CPU or RAM or motherboard or video card. Many boards have a locking mechanism on their video card slot that prevents accidental unseating, but in any event if that happens it really shouldn't damage the card . . . just re-seating it properly should fix it if that was the problem.

I would try a new keyboard for sure.

I hate this bullshit. I just tried powering up with no keyboard and nothing came up on screen. I tried plugging in another computer's connector for the external speaker and powered up, and no beeps came. My friend is having a tough midterm week and so isn't available until the weekend.

I just gave up and emailed the gigabyte tech support team to get the ball rolling on the mobo exchange; I dont know when my warranty expires with them.

Whatever. Fucking piece of shit..
