OK I am putting together a machine right now that I will be gaming with and some video editing... here are specs so far..

70 GB 10,000 RPM (Perhaps a second if I find I need it)
400 GB Storage HD
2 GB Ram
Athlon 3700
GeForce 6800 Ultra

Here is what I want to do as far as video editing.... I want to take video footage from within games, edit it, add commentary, perhaps music, words, and then either upload it to the net or burn it on DVD.
The video footage will usually come off an X-Box or PS3. I had planned on taping the footage with a VCR that I wanted then uploading to the PC and editing it.
So my question is that the way to do it? What type of software and hardware will I need? Will a regular VCR give me enough quality or should I go with some digital method? Any sites I should be visiting for video editing?
Any help or a push in the right direction would be appreciated..

Thanks!!

I would get a "TV tuner" card with built in mpg2 encoding/decoding (they usually run around $90). I would just record live off of your Xbox onto a HDD and then edit it from there. You would have better quality than a VCR. Software wise, you might need something like Avid Xpress Pro (if you want to take the time to figure it out). Or some cheap DVD authoring software might get the job done (and is probably included in a vid card or mobo bundle).

I'd get a lot of RAM with that system. Probably 2 GB (2x1GB).

Yup, I did see that thread, and also searched for the topic, Thanks.

I am scouring the web for some good video editing sites, message baords,,, for any of you following here is one,,, it has not been updated in a while but it seems to have some good info, http://www.videoguys.com/started.html They also sell products but the info appears genuine.

Thanks for the tip on the card... I wonder if a DVR would work? That could be cool... I could record 40 hrs or plus onto it, then take off what I want and edit it as time permits.. also I imagine the digital qualit will be there....

I'd just get a PVR-150 card to capture straight to the computer. Quality will be very good, and then you can do what you wish with it. Personally I'm a big fan of Adobe Premiere, they have a cheapened version for around 100$ i think.

Could you suggest a card like that for me to look at.
If I went that rout would I still need to get the Pinnacle Movie Box http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814144029

I would like as many features as possible without going through the roof on the price.
