pc tower cases confusion

I dont understand why pc cases have like two or three usb ports and the motherboard can have more. it doesnt make sense,,,can i still just plug things into the internal motherboards usb ports but just not access them from the outside. considering im going to have external HD plugged in ,,bluetooth dongle,,,possible mouse dongle and more.

to be honest im looking for a tower with minimum four usb ports. can anyone recommend one?

I will settle with one room for a fan, but it needs good airflow. it is going to hold xfx radeon 6950

The "internal ports" are headers meant for a hub. These would be either built-in case USB hubs (usually the front case ports) or for breakout brackets that come with many motherboard to provide more ports. Similar to this http://www.amazon.com/SIIG-CB-BR0311-S1-2-PORT-USB-Bracket/dp/B001H3DPMO

If you want more ports on the front you could always add them with something like this http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Internal-Hi-Speed-Front-Bay/dp/B000GGQ2SW

My examples are not hard recommendations, just quick google'd examples.

Most people use the rear ports for things that are semi permanent like an external drive or wireless mouse dongle.

right. ok forget ports on the front for a second. could someone answer this question?

1.does the ports of the motherboard stick out the back of the pc where you ussually have that big light grey area?

from what port of the MB do you get the usb ports on the front running.....is it just a connection wire...wearby I assume cases with 'external usb ports on them' actually have the metal port! and you just connect them to the motherboard adding to those ones on the motherboard that stick out the back.

can someone confirm this. thanks

um first of all LOL. ok sorry.

the usb ports on the back of the motherboard can be accessed from the back of the case. most new motherboards will come with 4-8 onboard rear usb ports. thats normally where you would plug in your usb devices like a keyboard, mouse, printer etc...
the usb ports on the front of the case are connected to the internal usb ports on the motehrboard (usually near the bottom) these are connected via internal usb connectors, not the normal usb cables you would be plugging in at the back of your case... if your case does not provide you with enough front usb ports, and you have some spare onboard ports on the motherboard, you can purchase a usb header and that would mount in ne of the slots on the back of the case to add 2 more ports. hope that cleared that up.
 
yeh so now i know when a pc case says it has this amount of ports in the short term i dont give a sh****T thanks...will look for a cheaper case i guess
