pc keeps freezing up

I have a second pc that I use for downloading, that's pretty much all it does. I built it out of parts I had left over from a couple rebuilds. It is a: A8N-SLI Deluxe, OCZ gold ddr500, 500w neopower psu, 8800gts, opti170; w/ no sound card or spkrs, just a ide optical drive.

I barely have it oc'd right now, @2.25G, it was higher but I keep turning it down due to freezeups, the memory is running at 1:1, 225, it will run solid at 250 though, gpu is at stock. I had an A8N32-SLI in there, but I have to rma it, this other board, as well as everything else ran fine before, I can't figure it out. It was fine for a couple weeks, but it's now freezing daily. No BSOD's, it just freezes, which makes me think it's the gpu, but nothing should be wrong with it.

any help?
thx,
rlr

sounds like your cpu's on its way out.. usualy a good sign with overclocked opti's.. most people will tell you the same thing that own opti's as time goes they have to turn down their oc's on it.. ive had the same problem with a couple of opti's i had and a few of my friends had the same issue..

Have you checked out your power supply? I had that happen once a few years ago and it turned out to be the power supply.

the psu is fairly new, it was a brand new replacement on a warranty from antec, I got it last year. It's not powering that much, 'cept for the gpu, but it should be fine.

I'm interested in it just being a well used opti chip, this one always ran hot from the beginning, and I had it clocked quite a bit higher in other machine, I had to remove the IHS, or whatever you call it, the top, it helped a lot and went smoothly. I have yet another asus board that I need to rma, an a8n32-sli, I'm going to try that in it, although I'll have to wait a little while to get it.
thx,
