31 here, spent most of my life being a pc gamer, building them since about 1989. Now-a-days I spend about 1/2 of my time gaming on consoles though because thats where nearly all of my lifelong PC gamer friends have migrated to.

I go where the fun is.
 
turning 20 on the 27th so voted 20-25

been gaming since I was 13, first pc game was Counter-Strike.

I believe it. I've been tinkering and toying with pc's and electronics since I was like 5 or 6, maybe younger. I wasn't able to build my first real PC until I was in 7th or 8th grade cause I could never afford it but I did parts/hardware upgrades.
 
I'm 49, will turn 50 in January. Will likely game till I'm in the grave.

Um.. I did? My mom is a systems architect for the county and I grew up with computers she checked out and brought home. The first computer I built was the first she brought home, an early 286 that didn't boot. If I recall, there was a bad jumper, a hard drive needed replacing and I installed a 2400 baud modem, Telix and a newer version of DOS. However ya.. back then nobody had computers. I can understand your doubt, but reassure you the glory years of my geekdom existed long, long before GUI based systems and plug and play.

Kids are pretty damn surprising because they dont understand that they shouldn't know how to do things. My 4 year old nephew blows my mind what he can do today.

I broke my ZX Spectrum 128+ when I was 12 - Tried to install a gamegenie from my c64.
The Speccy didn't like that.


Anyway. 36 here and damn I look good for my age :D. Moisturise(sp?) early and often.

I find the huge discrepancy between >19 and 20-25 groups interesting. I joined when I was 17 or 18, which is when I got my first job. With a job comes money and with money at that age came a lot of irresponsible spending! Had to do research on hardware before I bought it so I found this sorry lot! :D

damnit jim.. I am in the 40+ bracket.. sadness... but I started pc gaming on my 486 in 1993 and have kept with it for a long time.. there have been gaps where I get into other things, but I always come back to PC gaming as my go to activity for fun...

actually, I used to play Spiders of Mars and GORF on my VIC-20 in the 80s.. does that count?

Hell YES! :D I started on a Vic 20 and eventually owned all the different Commodore machine except the Amiga. Then I moved to my first IBM Clone, an XT box and it's been history ever since..... :D :eek::D

first computer i ever built i was 6, sure i didnt build it by myself. but the first system i build on my own i was 10, so whats your point?
 
28 here. Been PC gaming since I was a 5. Reader Rabbit on a Mac SE. Was a PC gamer and a console gamer until 2000, when I was introduced to Unreal Tournament and Half-Life. Console gaming just seemed boring by comparison and I sold my Nintendo64, Sega Genesis, and original Nintendo. I wish I had kept them, but atleast I can still get emulators. Haven't bought a console since.
 
Hmm...60% 26 and over. 40% 26 and under. I expected it to be more lopsided toward the 26-and-overs, but I'm glad to see so many 25-and-under people getting into it.

I got into PC gaming at 13 and never turned back. I had a PS1 for a year and Xbox while I was in training in the Air Force, but that's really it for me when it comes to console gaming (I don't think my DS counts...)

That's because were talking about a PC...if this was Consoles it would be completely different.

Not really.. they've done surveys... and in general and actually the average age of gamers is in their late 20's or early 30's... They have money to buy consoles/games, not every kid has parents that can buy systems and games for them. I don't think consoles would be much different.
 
32. I noticed that as I get older, I spend less time benchmarking and more time actually playing. Which is probably why I'm still rocking the q6600 lol. Flavor of the month: Fallout NV

You 20-25 year-olds, what the hell are you doing gaming? When I was your age I was out getting laid, doing drugs, robbing liqueur stores, making babies cry and so forth. In all serious though, the next time you spend a 4 hour stretch playing BC2 then checking your "Facebook", you should reflect on how you just piddled away part of the prime of your life.

Your should save games until you get older (married, engaged, kids etc.) for when you need them as safe and short getaway from the monotonous purgatory your life has become :)

Only if I can count my experience going way back to the penny arcades in England. I remember I used to like this night bombing sim that was all mechanicaly controlled with red lights to represent towns to bomb. Like you , I started PC gaming in 1993 but first video game I played was pong and also played Mattel Intellivision quite a bit too.

37, yea you know even the 20 year olds will be 40 one day, and they will be the ones whining about getting old lol.. happens to everyone so it's all good :)

HAH, you are SO right. although when i was in my 20s I BOTH partied my ass off and played games for days on end.. a lot of online MUDS (which were the equivalent of WoW but text only :)
 
21. Started a long time ago. I remember loading games in DOS when I was probably in kindergarten, then loading up games with floppies.
