PC does not start

Hello, :)
Few days ago my brother's eMachines desktop PC would not start.
He thought it was a bad switch so he pulled out the wires

from the front panel to the mobo.:mad:

But the on/off switch is fine. we tested it.
I took out the power supply and replaced it with a good one but the PC still not start up. The green light on the Mobo turns on when plugged in but the PC will start . The power supply has all the same connecters as the old one, The only difference it has on On/Off switch in the back of the PSU, the old PSU had not switch. I don't think this makes a difference?
The power from the wall is good, the Power cord is good.
I thought maybe I connected the cable from the power switch to the headers wrong but according to this Intel manual I have it right.:confused:

I connected it to 6 and 8 but it will not start.

If you've tried a different PSU, and all the switches are fine, chances are you've got a dead motherboard.

What is the make and model of the original PSU that was in the machine?
 
I don't know but I will try to fine out and post it as soon as possible.
I'm sure it was junk being in an eMachine. But I was surprised the MoBo was Intel.:eek:
 
They are notorious for PSU failures depending on the age of the machine. In fact, I just did mine yesterday when it wouldnt turn on. The status light shows that theres power going through the motherboard but it wont start. Similar to you my first thought was the switch, but that was fine so I ended up replacing the PSU and it worked. Maybe you could try swapping the orientation of the wires, who knows if they've labeled it right.

I tried swaping the orientation of the wires in every imaginable position but it will not fire up.
Do you know if there a way to test the motherboard? maybe thats the problem :confused:
 
Like I asked earlier, please post the make and model of the original PSU. If it's the one I think it is, then the motherboard is almost certainly dead.

And theres hoping the PSU killed itself without taking the motherboard with it.

I think it's pretty evident based on the symptoms that the motherboard is in fact dead. This PSU's tendency to kill motherboards makes that all the more likely.

I guess we should thinks twice about buying certian products, like e:mad:Machines
