I'm building a machine for a friend, we aren't sure as to what specs to use.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
PC will be used for gaming, as well was papers, web browsing, and possibly virtual machines.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? $3000, we would be happy to keep it under that, but wouldn't cry too much if it goes over.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
New York, and New Jersey, USA (we live on both sides of the border)
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
We currently don't have any parts. So CPU, GPU, power supply, ram, cooling system, a case to put it all in, mobo..
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
No.
6) Will you be overclocking? No.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
We currently don't have a monitor, but are debating on either 21 or 24 inch monitor, or perhaps maybe a larger one?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Within the month! Unless some cool part is going to come out a little later. But ideally this month would be great.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
RAID would be nice! Crossfire or SLI would be really good as well. USB 3.0 would be great. Not quite sure what that other stuff is but if you recommend it I think it would be good too!
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
We don't have that unfortunately. Should we go with Windows 8, and if windows 8 should we go with a touch screen?
Thanks for your help guys I hope my answers were not too vague. I'm kind of a beginner to building machines, but I'm really excited! It would be my second one. The one I built in school was a lot of fun to do for me.
