Built an Inexpensive new desktop for my Sister. Will not post. The CPU fan spins for a second when I push the power button, but that's it. Everything is new.

I have replaced the MOB and PSU. Same results.
I have unplugged everything and attached each part one by one with the same results.
I have removed and cleared CMOS.
I have reseated the CPU fan and reapplied Artic Silver 5

The only thing I haven't done is replace the CPU and/or RAM.

Is there anything that I should try, before replacing CPU? :confused: Thank-you for any assistance.

Case - Antec
CPU - i3 3225
MOB - Gigabyte GA-B75M-HD3
RAM - Cosair Vengeance 1600 4GB x2
PSU - Cosair CX500
HD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
HD2 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB
*HDs connected via SATA

Did you try starting the PC using the screwdriver method?
Did you reset CMOS?
 
Did you strip the PC down to the bare essentials and placed it outside of a case to start it up?

Also, hit up the stickied "Basic Troubleshooting Guide' on what to do when the PC does not POST (specifically the "A Barebones bench test - Procedures to follow if your system does not POST:"):

Report back when you've done ALL those steps.
 
No. I have not attempted the outside of case start-up. Will try that now. Then, go to the bench test link. Thank-you for the help. :)
 
Same results. I'm coming to the conclusion I have a bad CPU. Never would have thought that.
Going to test both RAM and CPU. I'll inform you of the results for future reference. Maybe, save someone else ... 2 motherboard exchanges and a power supply exchange and a new case. :mad:
On the bright side of things, Micro Center is only a few blocks away.

Yes. I just replaced the CPU and RAM. I had Micro Center put the mob on the bench and they were able to POST. So, I just replaced the PSU again. Fingers-crossed.
 
3 - MOB
4 - PSU (Upgraded to Cosair CX600M from CX500)
2 - CPU
2 - Sets of RAM
... and still the same results. Turn on power and the fans start to spin then nothing.:confused:

What am I missing! I believe I will give up and take it in to the technician with all the testing abilities.
 
You said Micro Center got the mobo to work. Well what did they use different? That should have answered your question right there.
 
They informed me ... plugged in power and video and were able to POST.
It has to be something with the power. I'm pugging in straight from outlet.
 
Have you tried different outlets in your home?

It's not out of the question that a faulty outlet will not allow a PC to boot.
 
Well, it was a short in the Hard Drive. Doesn't explain why it ... You know what. I'm just going to be happy it's resolved.:D

I'm sure I'll be back soon (month or two) with my PC media/gaming/server/work build. I'll post the build to get feedback.
 
Well, good to see that your issue is resolved.

You should wait about two more months for your new build: Intel's Haswell CPUs are supposedly coming out in June or July of this year.
