Parents came home with pr0n detection knowledge from church...How do I get rid of it?

Hey there...my parents came home from church today...aparently they had a discussion about pr0n and computers...now I need to get rid of ALL evidence of the stuff...I've already done some things but don't know if I covered EVERYTHING...anyone know how I get rid of it all BESIDES backing up my m0vies???? :D

EDIT: OK you guys...this PC is mine...my own...my precious...OH AHEM!!!...I've been watching too much Academy Award pre-show stuff...GO LOTR!!!...OK ppl...this PC is mine and not my parents...I'm the only one that uses this...just an FYI since some of you are wondering that
 
do a search for all the common file types. JPG, GIF, MPEG, MPG, AVI, ASF, ect. That's really the only sure-fire way to make sure it's all gone.

Or, you could not do it in the first place.
 
Do you have your own computer? That's the most important point I think.

Your computer, your stuff.
Their computer, their stuff. Take special care to go through "temporary internet files" and %temp%.

If it's your own computer, install linux with dm-crypt.
 
I don't hink that was it but I did it anyways...I think it was the Clear History part...I forgot to get rid of that...LOL...anymore tips??? Last time my dad found pr0n on my pc he turned off internet for almost a whole year:eek: :eek::eek:
 
LOL. Sucks to be you. Seriously, you should search for the different file types, clear history, search through all folders and afterward defragment to prevent recovery of those files. After you do all this you can always try getting a girlfriend, moving out, call social services and say your parents abuse you, whatever you have to do to protect your pr0n collection! (sarcasm) If it is your PC and not your parents, password protect everything. If they give you shit about it, say they are violating your privacy and if they weren't such prudes you wouldn't need to.
 
Haha!! :D sometimes, when my dad comes to visit, he looks for pRon on my PC, but only coz he wants to watch it...

find your 'Recent Items' in Docs and Settings somewhere and clear it out as well. I think that removes stuff from your 'Documents' thingy in the start menu.
 
Right Click the Start Button - Properties - Start Menu Tab - Customize - Advanced - "Clear List"

This will clear all your recent documents as well as your Browser address bar...

Be sure to clear out all evidence in Windows Media Player, or whatever you use. Sometimes it will "house" recently played files, or it may even have a "deleted files" folder.

Basically you should have had your escape route before you ever started your journey, or you should not be vieiwing since you probably arent old enough anyway, legally.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry about it. Just clear your basic history and your fine. I highly doubt this little chat from your church gave your parents the abilities to search the ways needed to find that info buried inside windows files. Just do a search on all known vid and pic types like they would do and your fine. Clean that history and cache!
 
You could always try this: Rename the extension from, say .mpg, to .pdf.

They will appear as PDF files, which when you try to open, will give an error. You can always then rename the extension back to what it should be when you want to watch.

Just rename them as 1.pdf, 2.pdf or something, and not hot!!!!!!!!!.pdf

I have *.rar'd all the vids and hid them deep in my HDD in scattered folders...I hope there's none that I have forgotten...I usually do a good job at burning them all on a CD once I reach 700MB's worth ;)

Just throw them in some hidden directory somewhere, and change the filetypes or something (reallygoodmovie.mpg = reallyboringfiscaldocumentation.wtf).

Maybe I'm just a privacy-nut, but I fucking hate all this pr0n-hunting shit. Seriously, my HDD, my stuff. Stay away!
 
If you're 21 or somewhere around that age, you should tell your parents that "I'm old enough to know about those things..."

And is it your own comp? If it's theirs, why are you accessing porn on it in the first place? If it's yours, you should just password the whole thing and move the stuff into a hidden folder.

you were better off renaming them, cuz i know in XP search you can search inside of archive files.

For *.zips maybe...but not *.rar's...XP has ZIP capability...you can browse zips without any software...but not rars...someone correct me if I'm wrong

I know you can password them...but that just prevents you from opening them up and viewing them...but I don't know about encrypting RAR's...how you do that??? I know I could Google it but I am watching the Academy Award s and am typing between commercials so I don't have time to research right now...

RAR is sort of the crazy 3rd party... I love the format, but you need something like WinRAR to look at 'em. Windows XP won't open them like it can open zips, and you can't search inside of them.
 
1. Bios password
2. Windows Password
3. DL tweakui (for win98/2000/Me) or Powertoys for XP and have it auto clean your temp folder, history, temp internet files, recent documents, address bar.
4. rename all you porn to something less noticable. Nothing like xxxhotchick.mpg)
5. Place them in a hidden folder
6. Hide all hidden folders.
7. If all else fails burn them all to a cd and format your hdd if you are really parinoid about it.

Have fun with hiding all that. This should also teach you that porn is a very tricky business. tricksey little porn creatures tricksey.

If he puts everything into a hidden directory, wouldn't that and clearing the history and temp. files be enough. I would think search wouldn't touch hidden directories if they're hidden.
 
Use a program that will protect specific folders. A program like Folder Guard can do this. You can make individual folders hidden or inaccessible. In order to unhide your folders, you need to type in a password and everything will show up.
 
If you are 21 and are worried about your parents demanding to inspect your computer for porn, it is time to move out.

If I were in your position I'd just BIOS password the machine and use Windows user accounts. Just tell them you decided to lock it up since it is your property.

If your parents still insist on inspecting your machine to cleanse it of unholy pr0n, thus saving your soul from who knows what fate, well like I said it is time to move out.

D00d....I can't move out...they pay for everything...I don't have to pay for food, shelter, bills, NOTHING...if I moved out I'd have no where to go and I'd be paying tons of bills and stuff on my own...screw that...I'd rather stay here where it's cheaper (for me)...I eat all the food I want and we got cable and my dad pays for my car (since it's my first car...they always pay for their kids first car) and they pay for my tuition so I can pay 100% attention to my school work and not less than that and have to go get a job...yeah that's right...I don't gotta get me a job...my job os to go to college and continue to get my A's and B's...I also get paid twice a month...so moving out is not the answer...I'm happy where I live...I'd be sacrificing WAY too much just to look at pr0n freely

Also, use Firefox which has a nice "clear all"-button (Tools -> privacy -> clear all) that removes, well, everything.

That it's IMHO a better browser than IE is just a bonus :D

You know, historically, when you turn threads like this into a life-help thread, they get locked. Example: Laforge's thread from a few months back. He just wanted an outside opinion of what to buy to make his computing experience more enjoyable, and it turned into thread that he should spend the money on something for his fiance. Yeah, thats certainly going to improve his computing experience :rolleyes:

Anyway, if you have media on your computer that is incriminating, just move it to a hidden folder, and set search up to not search hidden directories.

If you look at pr0n websites, then get FireFox. Its got a more robust history-cleaning service than IE.
 
OK...I'm gonna move toward going back on topic here...ok...now say I use FireFox as a secondary internet browser...could I set it up so that NOTHING opens up with it except when I want to access it by itself???

For example, I use Windows Media Player (WMP) all the time...I also like to use WinAmp...I installed WinAmp but unchecked ALL associations with it so NOTHING opens up when I click on another link...when Iclick on a media link (like on my HDD or the web) WMP opens up and not WinAmp...I use WinAmp when I open it up and Open up the file manually and when I want to...

Now can I do the same with FireFox??? Just have it installed on my PC but NOT and not have ANYTHING open it up via a link or whatever??? My plan is to use it JUST for pr0ning...:D...then I just delete the history at the click of a button (I guess) and I'm back to normal again...

What if I view some pr0n on IE and use FireFox to clean everything up...will it delete all evidence on my HDD and the stuff IE creates on my HDD???

AHH...I'm sure there was an easier and shorter way of saying all of that:rolleyes:...maybe I should have just said if there was a way to clear all associations with FireFox so IE is still my primary browser....awww crap...I htink that's what I should have said...oh well...:rolleyes: :eek: :cool:
