Packaging FAIL

lol, been there myself! (Amazon once shipped me a hard drive just like that)

that is such a waste of money!!!

But hey I get most of my stuff like this as well...

Awesome lol, I see a lot of companies do that though. I ordered a CPU from Dell and it came inside a nice huge box with one little box inside and a nice shiny Xeon E5520:)

actually its the other way around.. the reason they ship it that way is because its so cheap.. they pay bulk rates for the boxes.. so they buy thousands of the same size box.. and they pay bulk rate shipping so the cost is only the weight and not the actual size of the box..

Best Buy probably uses UPS and knows how the drivers like to literally 'toss' packages to their destinations.

I for one hope that all my deliveries have more than enough protection.

I wish I had a picture, but we had a funnier one from Gateway back when they had a business side. We ordered a laptop and case for it. The laptop arrived, the case did not, they were out of stock. About two days later we got the laptop case, shipped priority overnight. About 3 days after that we got a box. Inside the box was a sheet of paper, protected with some air padding. The paper told us our laptop case was delayed, but would ship soon. The paper was shipped UPS ground.

:D

LOL!

That is too funny!

I got a light fixture from Craigs List and they shipped DHL. They dropped it off with Hugh rips/holes in it and no glass left.

We filed a claim, they came out looked at the box wrote some crap down and left. Never got them to pay a cent.

Fed-X ground rules. I've had the best luck with them.

thats DHL for ya.. years ago i got a package from DHL that was one of my neighbors check books that she had ordered.. i could of gone to town and bought want ever i wanted with em.. :p

thats the same way i got my notebook in a huge ass box that you could fit an old crt tv and the thing is that they didnt even put in some padding the notebook box was just sloshing around on the inside

I guess it's harder to lose a larger box in shipping. :)

you know you need to sign checks to use them to buy things and show photo ID, right?

Funny stuffs. People B&M if an item is underpacked *cough Newegg*, and still B&M if an item is overpacked... Just no pleasing some people I guess.

That is how I pack my shit when I am selling to fellow [H] forum peeps. :p
You would have pile drive an elephant on top of one of my packages!

at least you're pretty much guaranteed to get your item with no damage when they pack it like that. Newegg needs to take packing lessons from these guys.....the past 8 - 10 boxes i've received from them have about a half a ton of that new paper packing they use up on top of the items in the box, but absolutely NOTHING on the bottom side....so the items were sitting on the very bottom of the box with no padding whatsoever.

What a bunch of crap!

How random is Best Buy's shipping? I once bought a DVD from them and they shipped it to me in an ENVELOPE! When I got it, it was smashed into a million pieces. I contacted them and they said "if you'd like an exchange, you can feel free to walk into any Best Buy and swap the DVD out."

Hello? If I could "walk into any Best Buy" in the first place, I wouldn't have bought the DVD online!

Morons.

Seems silly, but as others have said, it's actually cheaper for them to do that than to keep a huge variety of box sizes.

I don't get why the OP on his blog whines about the "environmental waste" though. This "green" thing is dumb as hell.

If anything is a waste, it's the time, money, and energy put into recycling paper.

I ordered a DVD burner from newegg many years ago. The Burner came from their plant in Tennessee or whatever, but the free sticker came from California. The sticker had its own tracking number and was flown from 3000 miles away in its own large box full of peanuts. The box was roughly large enough to fit a CRT monitor in.

I'll never trust those cocksuckers at DHL to deliver anything of mine again. When I had a custom Dell laptop returned to me from being serviced, dumbshit delivery person stuck the laptop (in coffin packaging) between the front door and storm door on a summer afternoon. No knock or anything. Fortunately I was home. What's worse is that there was a huge SIGNATURE REQUIRED label on it. That was beyond UPS dumb.

When NewEgg tells you an OEM hard drive only comes with the drive, they aren't kidding. I bought a WD 1TB drive from them, and in the box was the drive wrapped in bubble wrap. I think the Samsung DVD burner I bought from them came that way too.

FedEx is the best for shipping. A little pricey, but at least I know my package is going to show up, in one piece, and guaranteed drop-free :p.

As long as they don't put additional charges on the customer for that unnecessary packaging, its fine by me.

Over here, most of my stuff have minimal protection and the boxes are usually in a bad shape when they arrive.

McMaster does this too. Annoying. I think it has to do with why they can ship so quickly (McMaster, that is).

No moron, it's not. If we don't recycle paper, that means we destroy it. Now we need more paper, so we cut down more trees.

When the trees are gone, so is humanity.

Stop being a moron.

Amazon used to do this to me all the time. I would order tiny items, and they would ship them in boxes about the same size as what was shown in the photo.

Sustainable forest. Tree farms. Read up more on how paper is actually recycled.

Paper companies plant trees specifically for making paper. As long as you're using paper instead of plastic (which does not biodegrade) you're fine.

No need for name calling.

Someone at Best Buy is singing the following:

I like...big boxes and aI cannot lie
you other brothas can't deny
when a package come in with an itty bitty item and a big box in my face I get sprung.

Even int he labels it's wearin
I'm hooked and I can't stop starin
oh package i wann get wit ya
and take your picture

my homeboys tryin to warn me
but that box you got makes me so horny

:D

What a waste of trees! I know it's mostly recycled paper but still.

On the contrary, when my PS3 arrived the box was barely bigger than the PS3 box itself. There was only cushioning on one side and the PS3 box was left banging against the cardboard all the while. Thankfully there were no punctures or dents.

There's one shop in Poland that ships games in the same way after they were bough by big computer parts distributor ;)

LOL @ hp. are they even aware of this utterly retarded packing for such small things? i understand standardizing box sizes but a pallet? and 2 sheets of paper PER BOX!?

DoubleFacePalm.jpg

Everything we get from HP at the shop comes like that. It's not uncommon to see that from Dell as well.
