p6ngm adding vidio card

This is the standard 7k series videocard. You are asking us to reccommended a video card, but tell us nothing of how you are using it or the processor, ram or other hardware?

I concur with gwarren007: Provide more info please. Like what CPU you're planning to use, your max budget, what is the EXACT MAKE AND MODEL OF YOUR POWER SUPPLY, etc.

Well, before any of us can help you, you need to figure out what kind of budget you're working with, as well as some firm plans regarding what you plan on doing.

Ok dude, it looks like we're gonna have to use a different approach here. Answer ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS or we cannot help you:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
3) Where do you live?
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
6) Will you be overclocking?
7) What size monitor do you have or plan to have?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

Don't skip a single question. FULLY ANSWER ALL OF THEM. Not that hard to do.

I've never heard of a video card frying a motherboard because the board was too old. You've got nothing to worry about.

Hope this clears this up Only want to know if this mobo can handle a 4870 or will it run to slow on it even if the cpu and power supply are top notch.

Yeah none of that was even apparent from your OP.

Anyway, as Zero82z said, there is no widespread case of a mobo killing a GPU. It's usually a PSU killing the system. The only thing a mobo has fried has been the CPU and RAM.
