Got a few new Precision T3500's in and decided to use F@H to "burn" them in over the weekend. ENGPC2-PC and ENGPC3-PC have the exact same specs (W3530 Xeon w/ 4GB of RAM and FirePRO V5800) but those P6702 WUs are just crushing one of my boxes. On other WUs they are good for darn near 10K PPD with the -smp 8 flag and all cores active. I had gotten a P6702 the other day on my Core i7 and it wasnt taking anywhere NEAR 27 min per frame. These are just nasty hard core WUs I guess.

Ouch. I'm not familiar with those WUs, but my farm has run six of them it appears

The 6702's are basically the next iteration of the 6701 which were terrible for PpD. They have been released in general so removing the -advmethods flag no longer works.
 
I dont really care if I get them. They just must be really gnarly on the "crunching" side of things.

I got 4 more today though so my weekend folding project will be limited at best for PPD. Oh well, its all for a good cause and that is all that matters. :)
 
6701 and 6702 do give less PPD than other A3 units, but from that HFM screenshot you're still seeing abnormally low performance compared to what you should be getting. Is there anything else using up CPU power on those machines?
 
Nope , all those machines are doing is running F@H. No AV, nothing else.

EDIT: I did forget to mention that I am running the 6.30 drop in binary. I did not run the install.bat since I had read it was no longer needed with the 6.30 SMP binary. Maybe this is screwing me up?

It shouldn't. Nobody reported performance issues yet. I didn't have success with the drop-in myself when I tried it with a few clients. In my case, the client just stopped working after I stopped the service. If your client still works then something else is the problem.
 
Looks like it might have been the Distributed.net GPU client I was using on the FirePro cards to crank some RC5 keys for the Horde. I've gotten the Frame Times down to about 9min from 12-14min with P6701 and P6702 WUs.

I don't have the problem on other FirePro and Radeon based machines that I run the 6.30 SMP client and DNET GPU client on though, so go figure. Maybe something weird about Win 7 x64 and the 32bit client software. For now I will shutoff the DNET clients and see how much better it gets.

6702 (like 6701) have gone public, so they will DL with or without -advmethods flag now I'm afraid....just the [un]luck of the draw. :eek:

I will say that after getting a few of them each on some older machines that really crawled with them (e8400@stock 3ghz, q9450@3.6ghz), neither machine has gotten either a 6701 or 6702 lately so I almost wonder if there's some sort of "self awareness" going on where they (Stanford/Pande Group) sees what you can and can't handle and doesn't send these out anymore once you've done a few and taken longer than usual to do them. (of course I'm just hypothesizing though)

I know they did up the deadlines for these because they realized people were barely making the cutoff time on some machines, so...they do crawl, but you shouldn't be in danger of not making the deadline.
 
Well technically it is sorta like Skynet :D :eek: which did become self aware in T3 ;) but yeah you're right :D
