Hi, thanks for reading.

This is a very stupid question i know, i just cant seem to find the answer with the search and my perusal of the manual hasnt found a clear answer either, here goes :

The raid SATA ports on this board, can i use them as normal SATA ports too? As in, i hook up a drive set it to standard ide mode in bios and done? Or will my computer still want raid drivers and whatever. This is my first SATA system, so i just dont know and was thinking id ask before messing everything up (;

Hope you guys can help me.

(Didnt have any success in the Data storage subforum so i thought id try it here)

If you set it up in IDE mode, you won't need drivers for a windows install.

You will still want the drivers if you plan on using ahci (NCQ). Also once you install without the drivers you won't be able to use ahci or raid later down the road if you change your mind unless you reinstall windows, I don't know if thats the case with XP but it is with Vista.

You can only use the yellow sata ports in tandem (2 hds). I tried hooking up one hd, one sata optical no joy. I ran raid 0 with the asus ez raid and found that performance was less than stellar.
