P5Q-PRO + Q6600 Help!

I cant seem to get this thing over stock, I put the correct mushkin timings, disabled most cpu features. I don't know whats going on, i need some help.

Right now, im using this

P5Q-PRO
Q6600
4GB Mushkin 5-5-5-15 PC8500
600watt OCZ MODX
GTX 260

I had this on my prb-e at 3.2ghz, this i cant get to post at 350x9, 400x8, 320x9, 390x8. I hope i didn't just waste this cash on a borked board...

I messed with the voltages a little, still couldn't get it to post. Not once did i get it to post with those settings, i would enter them and my fans would go full out with no video either. Each time, had to pull the cmos battery to get it to reset for me.
 
Can't help too much but will chime in with what I know. I have the E flavor of that board and mine always stops everything for about 5 seconds also when I make changes to overclocking. Mine then does reboot, however. Are you sure your system is stable in windows at stock? Have you tried upping the NB voltage some without increasing the cpu speed? (mine was NOT stable without setting the NB to 1.3volts when 4 sticks of ram were installed) Are you sure your heatsink is down all the way? Check all of that out before you try overclocking just to make sure. What kind of temps are you getting from coretemp?

Does the Q6600 have an unlocked multiplyer? for some reason I didn't think it did.
 
That's odd. What voltages have you set? My Maximus II Formula board (also p45) has a feature called "level up" that does some automatic oc'ing. So you can check what voltages it sets once you reboot - so since I have a Q6700, it gave me some quad cores to oc to (qx6800, etc.). I've heard our boards are similar so when I get home from work and I'll try it out and report back. May give you a baseline to try settings. Just a thought.

Otherwise, you shouldn't need insane voltages to get to 3.2...but you may need some. Do you know what the VID is of your chip? ie. mine is 1.275 - I think that affects how much voltage you need to throw at your cpu when you're overclocking...
 
Yep, i checked everything temps are in the 30's idle and voltage is 1.275 i upped it to 1.4 to see and nope..nothing no video. NB i brought to 1.45 and nothing. Why would I keep getting no video posts?

Im also using 2x2gb... I just cant get anything to post with this p5q pro its really annoying when i see how good this board actually is. However being able to run at full 1066, man does ram speed smooth out game play or what. Now if i can only get 3.4 off this board ill be impressed.
 
Hm..have you tried lower OC's? (2.67, 2.8, 3.0) . If the board won't overclock at ALL then something may be wrong possibly. Very weird.
 
You most likely won't need any NB voltage higher than 1.3v. I have my NB running at 1.26V at 450fsb stable. This board at stock is rated to handle 1600 FSB at stock (400 FSB). I believe you should check your ram divider and FSB strap to see if they're at the right setting. Did you set the correct voltage for your RAM also which I assume should be 2.1V?
 
Yeah, I would say check your ram voltages. I mean I guess at 350fsb it should be fine but it has to be something related to voltages regardless. When overclocking, you want to use "Auto" as little as possible. Also, change your CPU voltage to something higher than stock that you know is safe. I've never owned a 65nm but maybe something like 1.45 (that would kill a wolfdale on air)? Also, make sure your ram is properly divided but I'm sure you've already done that.
 
I think i might have found the issue, in the memory settings i only set settings for the (D) memory setting and left (S) on auto. I think i might need to setup single channel timings. If not im going to try a complete auto for the memory and try it again and see if that makes it possible.
 
Ok put in 320x9 set the (S) ram values. Posted.

Still far away from 3.4 but its getting closer, i dont know whats causing the no video post though.
 
Update -

I found the problem I set my ram performance level to 10 i brought it down to 9 and now everything is fine. First try at 3.78 able to post.
 
3.412 stable without too much tinkering. Thanks for the help, but if anyone can be of any further help id be happy to push this thing further!

3.412 Ghz 8x425 1.4volts on vcore.

Looking good so far, i also use a 1.2750 vid q6600, board is an asus p5q deluxe, so pretty similair to yours. My settings for 3.4ghz were,
9x378
cpu vcore 1.3750
cpu pll, 1.52
fsb-term,1.22
nb, 1.12
fsb-nb strap, 333mhz.
set ram volts and timings according to manufacturers spec, (personally i ran my ram on a 1.1 ratio below its rated speed of 800mhz to take it out of the cpu stability equation).
Those same chipset voltages and an increase in vcore to 1.4125v (later got it down to 1.400) enabled me to achieve 3.6ghz (9x400 fsb) with my ram running at its correct speed of 800mhz
 
Ok, 1 has a core failed after a few minutes on Prime, voltage at 1.400 what other voltages can a use to help gain stability without upping the vcore too much?

FSB strap 333 is 1:1? Alot of the bios are way different than what im use to seeing on my p5b-e.

Appreciate the help.
 
only by .02 on each. and NB @ 1.38v

Pll and fsb term i don't yet have a full understanding if they stabilize an unstable cpu or give you a bigger overhead on your fsb?
 
I cant seem to get it prime stable for more than 4 passes. I have messed with all voltages and set them to what i think should be more than enough for 430x8 1.45v What should i try to do to make this 3.5-3.6 stable? Other than a high v-core? I need to know maximum values for other voltages as to avoid blowing things up.
 
Running 8x435 @ 1.475 volts (in bios) 1.464 (in windows)

Haven't messed around with high PLL voltages or FSB volts. I wanted to know what else I can try to help bring down the V-core (other additional voltage options to take some stress off the cpu v-core.
