Has anyone had issues with the Atheros onboard LAN on the P5Q Pro? I've read little snippets here and there about P5Q LAN issues when I google for it. Would it be worth it to get an Intel NIC just in case?

I haven't had any issues, but it doesn't hurt to have a spare PCI NIC on hand in case you need it.

we couldnt get the drivers from the CD to work with it and xp pro, it kept causing freezes during the boot process. We had to find an old driver revision....dont remember what one but it was one of the oldest you can find out there to make it work right.

I used the drivers off the CD and it worked for me. I haven't had any issues with it for as long as I've had my board.

I also have a spare NIC lying around...I think it's only a 10/100, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared, especially if you rely on your computer to make money ;).

The one I have now I bought off someone on ebay that had to RMA the board because the onboard lan kept giving them problems before it went out. The board that was sold to me was not the one they sent in, but was replacement.

The onboard Nic has always worked for me, but is obviously of very low quality. Things like heavy torrenting will bring it to it's knees pretty quickly. I bought a broadcom PCIe 1x adapter for like $15 off ebay and it's significantly better.
