I currently have 3 ata hard drives, and 1 sata hard drive connected to this motherboard. The operating system is on the 1 sata(raptor 74gb hd) that is connected to the "sata 1" connector on the motherboard.

I just recently got a 300gb maxtor sata harddrive and tried connecting to the motherboard at "sata 2" but it causes the computer to not recognize either of the 2 sata HD's connected as reported in bios. I tried taking out the old raptor and bios recognizes the maxtors as 300gb. When i put the raptor back in and remove the maxtor, bios will recognize the raptor as usual. Having both hd's connected will cause bios to recognize neither.

I have the latest intel chipset drivers for the motherboard.

Is it not possible to connect 2 sata HD's at once or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, it is enhanced mode. And set to non-raid.

I did realize i had an older version of the bios. 1004. The newest one is 1019. I can't seem to flash the bios with the afudos utility though. When i type in afudos /iP4P81019.rom, it'll output somethign like The ROMID doesn't match your mobo's ROMID. I'm sure i have hte correct .rom file though. I should try flashing maybe an older bios than 1019.

Any other tips? :)

I would double check your bios settings to make sure sata 1 is the first boot disk and that the Os disk is on sata 1. Keep trying on the bios bit that may help. Ill dig around later inthe day so brb

Yes, I made sure sata 1 is the first boot disk. (I had to of course also make sure it is the first in the priority of all my hard drives). Man, this is pissing me off. I can't seem to update my bios. I tried all the other versions, 1009, 1014, 1019, 1018, 1017 and none of them allow me to update the bios.

When I type in afudos /i<biosname.ext>, it will output the following:

ERROR: ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID.

WTF is that?! I'm sure I downloaded the correct bios from here:
http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=P4P800 Deluxe

The bios version I download should work with P4P800 and P4P800 Deluxe motherboards.

Once again, the compatibility mode in bios is set to Enhanced, Sata, Non-raid. Promise controller is disabled.

I tried resetting CMOS and then resetting the bios but it doesn't change anything.

Oh yeah, when I use afudos.exe to save the current bios version from the motherboarfd onto a floppy disk, it works. Then when i use the saved bios version to flash the motherboard, it will flash the motherboard, but that doesn't change anything, since I'm just flashing it with its current bios version.

The newest bios I could find for the P4P800-E Deluxe is 1006

The 1019 Bios is for the P4C800-E Deluxe.

Will the bios for the P4C800-E work on the P4P800-E motherboard?

Edit... I see there is a difference between the two download pages P4P800 and the P4P800-"E". That might be causing the issue. Good Luck

1361, thanks for the information. You are right, i had downloaded the wrong bios versions. I just flashed my mobo with the 1006 version but that still did not solve the 2 sata hd problem.

Did you get this sorted out? I have the latest bios on mine and now I'm having the same problem. I have two 36 gig raptors in raid 0 (yea I know, it's not the smartest thing to do) and now I'm trying to add an additional 250 gig storage drive. It shows up in the bios and boot up, just not in windows. If I unplug my raid and just run the single drive, I was able to install windows on it. I plug in my raptors and it does not show up. Arrr....

Any help on this anyone?

Boot off of your RAID array with your storage drive in place. Right click on "My Computer" in Windows and click "Manage." Go to disk management and then see if Windows picks up the drive there. You might need to format it to work with your current Windows installation.

Well, my problem was that window would not recognize the storage drive. It would not show up in the Disk Manager. I ended up calling ASUS's phone support. It seems with this board, the only way to make my config work (one raid 0 for the OS on the Intel chip) was to set up the single drive as a raid array with the promise controller. I didn't think it would allow me to configure a single drive as raid 0, but it did. Everything is working for me now. :D
