P4 problem?

Hello, i use folding@home.
I have it on one computer (a AMD XP 1800+ @ 1535MHz), and right now its doing a project worth 241 points (p1139). Its averaging about 7min and 20sec between frames (400 frames).

I also have it on another computer (a P4 2.8GHz @ 2800MHz), and its doing a project worth 235 points (p695). Its averaging about 8min 20sec between frames (400 frames).

Is this normal? On the P4, i have HT on.. and its affinity is set to both "CPU's", and its running on a win2000 machine. The AMD is running on a win XP home machine. Both have about 512mb of ram.

Is something not right? Should HT be disabled?

Or is it simply that the AMD XP processor is better at folding then the P4 with HT?

that seems a little strange to me. HT Processor fold like a b*** and i thik that should be faster. U should leave it enabled
 
The times seem ok to me. On the p4 you could run 2 clients, I have only AMD so someone else should explain that part to you. With hyperthreading and 2 clients running it should put out some good point numbers for you.


 
deostn really make a difference or does it? If u run on client, it will fold twice as quick... amds are good folders I find :D
 
You'll fold around +25% faster overall using two clients with HT, though both clients will be slower individually. Also, AMD does better at tinker work units.
 
You are running two Tinker core based WUs there. But they are different proteins and will fold different although due to the points being about the same, they should fold at about the same speed.

Now onto the difference. AMDs usually tear through Tinker core WUs while P4s don't do as well. On the other hand, P4s usually tear through Gromacs core WUs faster than AMDs. This is not always the case but it is a good general rule you can go by. That will be why the AMD is churning out frames faster than the P4. AMDs also are more efficient than P4s which is another reason why you see the slower clocked AMD putting out better times. These are reasons why a lot of us use AMDs in our folding rigs, especially rigs that are used for folding only. It's almost impossible to beat the price/performance of them.

 
Yea, i recently purchased one of those dell Poweredge SC420 servers for 363$... and its working good. It runs my FTP and Web server, although it does'nt get a lot of traffic.

I was going to make a computer with a sempron 2400+, but the price of the dell caught my eye.

I'm just very surprised that they fold at about the same speed.

As for the two folding clients, ill have to consider that.
