dothanCCUABIDExORxDIE said:dorthan
CCUABIDExORxDIE said:yea, well those people will run their dorthan m's at stock. my point is people who are gonna buy a fx55 are gonna overclock, and people who buy a pentium M dorthan most likely arent gonna overclock.

more poeple thank you think ill buy an FX55 to not overclock. just look at all the people that will buy one from alienware - its a niche market, sure, but so is that particular processor altogether
i was not making any sort of comparison, yet simply stating that many people buy a top of the line chip and OC it. Dothan OC's are getting more common now, as you can pin mod the 533fsb in laptops.duby229 said:True.... but I will bet that you got more FX55 OC's, then Dothan OC's...
As such that comparison was flawed and invalid....
how in the hell is alienware not "legit"? for anyone that doenst know crap about computers, theyre the "kickass gaming computers that cost a fortune"CCUABIDExORxDIE said:alienware will never be legit in my eyes, and things that arent legit, dont count. dothans are good chips, im not hating on them, but comparing a overclocked dothan and a stock fx55, thats like comparing a overclocked venice to a stock p4 EE. its unfair cause you get additional ram boosts and all sorts of junk.
BTW: i believe intel is ditching netburst (p4) in Q2 '06
its an open market. if people are willing to pay it, they can charge whatever the want. your logic makes absoutly no sense, at all. overcharging != illegitimate.CCUABIDExORxDIE said:edit: they arent legit cause they charge 2000 bucks for a computer that costs 1000 bucks to the person willing to go out and buy the stuff themselves. 1000 bucks to build a computer is illegitimate to me.
why wouldnt it be? its not that hard to tack on an instruction set like they did with the p4'sIt won't be 64bit... And that would kill them... That is why I think it will be 07 sometime... Anyhow either way, whether it be 06 or 07, I think it will be a nice chip that will give the A64 a run for it's money....
why wouldnt it be? its not that hard to tack on an instruction set like they did with the p4's
people who buy alienware rigs dont overclock. they dont know a motherboard from a graphics cardCCUABIDExORxDIE said:lithuim i meant like you can fully overclock a rig that cost you 1k to perform up to what a 2k dollar system from them would do. and yea i guess overcharging != illegitimate, but im not a fan of price gouging, but its not my money that they are spending.
we are enthusiasts. we want best bang for buck/overclocking potential. average consumers just want the best performance htey can get, and think that is the pricetag on it.
they've been doing the whole more ghz = more power thing for soo long
i thought they made slight comprimises when they switched between pentium's - a PPro would beat a PII at teh same clock speed, and PII would beat a PIII at the same clock speed, and i wont even go to the PIII and P4Scali said:And until the P4, indeed the clockspeed determined performance... especially since each new architecture got faster per clock, or at least remained at about the same level (slight dip going from Pentium to PPro). And in the P4's defense... the clockspeed was increased by enough to bridge the gap with PIII.
