I'm planning a new desk with a minimum of 5 portrait 23" displays. I'm want 9, but that's my pipe dream.

I can get the P23 in the Outlet for $199. The SP23 was listed at $209 as little as a week or two ago. It's at $279 right now, but I'd expect to get it in the closer to $200 range.

Comparison @ Dell

Outside of cost, the P has DisplayPort. This only matters if I can't wait for Nvidia to do surround gaming properly and am forced to use ATI. The Eyefinity6, if it ever gets released, is pretty tempting.

The SP has a much higher resolution, which is both a blessing and a curse. For one, the pixel density is prettier... but it also requires more horses to run. (Of course, there is always the risk of a SP2310W changing the game too...)

Decisions... decisions... Anybody want to help me decide?

They are both TN mode LCDs. You can't use these in portrait mode without an eyepatch.
I know TNs are not as good in the vertical viewing angles, but the price of IPS panels is not worth it to me. I'm staring at a TN panel right now, and as long as I'm sitting in front of it, I'm happy.

Yes, but you aren't staring at your TN in portrait mode, are you?

Yeah, I would never use TNs in portrait mode for anything. The vertical viewing angles become the horizontal ones and they are so bad that each of your eyes sees a different color which makes for a really strange and unpleasant efffect, as if the screen was "shiny" or something.

1- these are not thin bezels or borderless ,monitors
2-max horizontal resolution on Windows is 4096 ( 4k) , so 2x2 SP2309Ws max.

I would consider a multi monbitor setup for work or online poker with cheap TNs, SP2309Ws or the equivalents from Acer and Samsung, but for gaming i would wait for 120Hz panels capable of 3D or at list search for borderless TNs. The idea of multi TN panels AND bezels/borders is too much for me

I plan to debezel to get that extra few mm's. Either way though, not a big deal. I've been doing multi-monitor setups for 5+ years. The bezels, within reason, are not a factor.

What?!?!?!

I'm running 1920+1920+1200 (=5040) right now, so I'm calling BS on that.
