P180B = P182 ???

Still waiting to hear...

anyone else know if they've seen a v1.2 on a P180 near them?

Still waiting to hear...

anyone else know if they've seen a v1.2 on a P180 near them?

Well I got a really long story to tell about this whole P180/P182 thing.

I just helped a buddy build a system using newegg and he purchased a P180. When we got the case I noticed that it had all of the features that the 182 should have. The case had the cable management up the back side of the motherboard tray and the access holes cut into the tray to allow the cables through. It also had the water access holes along with the fan switches on the back of the case.

Now I have the older version of the P180 which is a year old. These new "enhancements" got me wanting an updated case. So I ordered one from newegg and got it one week after my buddies. Well after opening it up it was the old design which is what I already had.

So now the fun begins. I call Antec to confirm that the P180 has indeed gone through a re-design and I am told by the tech support person that it had been changed but the part number had remained the same. I was instructed to ask newegg to send me a case from the latest shipment from Antec. Well we all no that newegg can't do that (even though I called and tried). So I sent the case back to newegg (which cost a fortune from OH to CA) and then proceeded to order a case directly from Antec. I was told that would be the only way to guarantee me that I would get the new design.

So I ordered the case which cost an arm and a leg from Antec. I ordered the P180B as the guy on the phone said that would be my best chance of getting what I wanted. So the case comes in just this past Thursday. Things are looking good as I see the fan switches and when I remove the side panels I see the access holes in the motherboard tray along with the wire ties attached to the back of the motherboard tray. So am happy at this point.

So I install the power supply and begin to route the power cables up the back of the motherboard tray. Then I start to notice a problem. Here are two screen shots of the tray see if you can pick out what the problem is?

img031.jpg
img030.jpg

As you can guess with the red arrows this case does not have the necessary notch cut into the horizontal support to allow the cables to routed up the back of the motherboard tray and still be out of the way to allow the side panel to be re-attached.

Now it just gets plain fun. I call Antec support and go round and round with the supervisor of customer service and technical support about this issue. I send him these same screen shots and explain the problem. Not to bore you all with the long drawn out bad customer service I got the end of the conversation was this. "We no longer make cases with that notch feature....and if you want it cut it out yourself."

Well needless to say I was floored that the recommendation would be to hack into a $200 case (price they charge with shipping). I argued with the guy on the point of if they removed the notched area why include the access ports and the wire ties? What purpose do they serve? Well needless to say I did not get an answer.

So now after filing a compliant I am now dealing with a higher up who first confirmed that some of the P180's had all of the "features" I want (like what my buddy who is one of the few lucky ones) and some/most do not. He further stated that all of the features would be incorporated in the P182. So again not to bore you with all of the details I am trying to work with them now to return this 180 and get a 182 if/when they come out.

So long story short. Be careful when trying to get this new style of the P180 as it can be a very painful process. I suggest that if you want it just sit tight and wait for the P182 and save yourself allot of headache and frustration.

Jeez majunbu2u, that's a bummer. So the second time you called the guy said they aren't including the notch or anything like that in the P182? So did your P180B have the water cooling holes in the back?

On top of the return shipping and restocking fees you'll have probably spent enough for the cost of a P180.

Also, do you know if the rev # on the box was any different (like v1.2)?

Thanks.

You got it switched around. The guy from Antec said that the P182 will include ALL of the "features" when it is released. So I am assuming it will have the cable notch in the back of the case along with the other enhancements like I think are already implemented on some of the P180's.

The P180B that I have sitting next to me in box that I was talking about does have the two water cooling holes in the back of the case. It has has the fan switches on the rear of the case near the top. I just checked the box and near the UPC lable it still says it is v1.1

I will see if my buddy still has his box from the computer build we did a few weeks ago and check to see what the version number states on the box since he is one of the lucky few that got a P180 model with what looks like all of the enhancements that are going into the P182.

In relation to the shipping and restocking fees you are right it has cost me a fortune. The one thing that I guess is nice is that newegg credited me back the entire purchase price of the case along with the shipping they charged me. But there shipping of $15 as opposed to me having to pay $45 to return it does not really balance out.

Wow, that is really messed up. Maybe they are in the experimental stage or something. I'm waiting some more now I guess, although with all the jigsaw attacks I already 'invested' in mine...I might keep it. Definately would be nice to have a neat ready-made unit without suspect-looking mods done to it.

OP hows the noise level?

And as I understand it, the P182 is better designed for WC? Within the next 30days I will be purchasing a new case and this is...well its the only case on the list, but I want to have little problems going down the WC route and noise reduction to a minimum.

Only as much as they drilled two holes to run tubing though. Then you wonder how quiet that external WC unit could be. You can internal mount 2 120 single rads or a Thermochill 160 rad in a P180 with minimal mods, just some drilling, cutting if desired but not needed. I'm putting 2 BIP's in mine, front and rear, should be done this week pending fixing a leaking block and redoing my wiring. I figure with it all inside...nice and quiet.

Ah, thanks for the clairification.

Interesting. I was at MC the other day and noticed that they had a new shipment of silver P180s. The rev was 1.1, AFAIK the silver was never updated to the 1.1 spec. I wonder if this has the WC holes and PSU-Mobo notch. Is there anything else discerning about the package? Like does it say it includes WC holes and the mobo notch on the package? Or is it the 1.1 packaging? Can you snap a pic of the UPC if you haven't already shipped it back?

Much obliged for the help.

...back to newegg (which cost a fortune from OH to CA)
Last time I returned something, newegg had me email them my return reciept and credited it back.

...a $200 case (price they charge with shipping).
$200!! Fry's has that on sale for $80 from time to time. I sure hope you win a P190 somehow for all the trouble. :D

...AFAIK the silver was never updated to the 1.1 spec...
Fry's has the silver 1.1 and it's identical to the P180B w/ the new 2nd middle fan, composite front door, etc.

Well, I finally gave up on Antec and decided to make my Stacker a little more accommodating. First I started w/ some love for the G80. Fed it an Antec Super Cyclone and all was well.

But then I got "MB temp envy" from a buddy who's got a similar setup. He ran @ 25C-28C all day and my little probe sat around 35C. :( Found a couple of the stock Stacker 120's and zip tied them w/ care. Now I had 28C MB temps. :D Crucial got much deserved love too.

Finally, today I got sick and tired of my cables making love to the motherboard. Unfortunately I ran out of battery. :(

So now I sit checking out Supreme Commander w/ a bunch of chip next door.

It took a little work, but I'm sure the "DIY reward" will be well worth the effort. :D

Thats a nice stacker build. I just wish they gave the stacker a little more room to work with in the back with the 810 and I wished they have it slots between the tray and the drive chamber so you can sneak cables in :)

What majunbu2u and others have experienced seems to be common
practice as manufacs transition parts stock from current product to new.
Since many parts on the new p182 fit on the existing p180, they
are used as the older parts stock depletes.
Includes the mobo tray with cutouts, rear panel (with holes & switches),
and the interior lower chamber shelf with extra hole and sliding bracket.
As long as Antec still has exterior p180 case parts, they'll use em up
and you'll see the last of the p180s coming off the line as these Franken-p180 hybrids,
but still boxed as p180. Case in point, the normal p180 hasn't matched the pics
on the box for almost a year now though the feature-set remains the same.
Latest word from Antec sales is 6-8 more weeks for US retail avail.

Gentlemen, start your dremels. ;)

So anyone else order this from the egg? Any confirmation they're shipping P182s?

Thanks.
I ordered my P180B from NewEgg at the beginning of last month. I haven't checked for that notch feature majunbu2u posted about, but other than that (and the titanium grey case color) my P180B also seems to be a P182 :). SPCR discussed the P182 in a recent article and I asked them about mine on their forum... seems I've got a P182 but I'll have to check for that mobo wiring notch.

Edit: I might be able to take some pics.

Sounds good, take a pic of the back, I'd like to see how deep the MB tray is.

(uh oh, sounds like computer building time again...and I thought I just got done, lol)

P180Bwiringnotch.jpg

There's a pic of mine. I placed a quarter at the bottom (kept falling off the ledge with the notch -- ledge wasn't wide enough for it), so I hope that's good for size comparison purposes. Sorry for photo angle and such (cramped dorm room).

Here's another pic. This one of the inside and from the power supply bay's viewpoint (with the case lying on its right side and with both side panels on), the notch is near the center.

Yep, that definately solves a lot of problems. Enjoy the case, it will let you make a neater build much easier than the origional.

Thanks for the pics. Did yours have watercooling holes in the back? Also, did yours have a P/O# or anything by the UPC?

Thanks.

damn nice bro
i ordered my p180b this week from newegg. I will report back with the findings when i get it :)

Yup, it's got the two holes in the back along with the fan switches and that added hole near the power supply cable pass-through.

P/O# 896726

Use caution when ordering from the Egg, seems some get the 182, some get the 180 as told in a thread on the 182 at Silent PC Review. I think maybe it depends which 'Egg warehouse your order ships from.

Well guys, i received everything yesterday and mine appears to be the 182 which GREATLY pleases me. At least something is right with the rig lol.

But yeah it does have the water cooling holes, and the cable management in the back. Id take pictures but i have no camera. Just thought id let you know.

Grats ;D Just curious, do you happen to know which warehouse newegg shipped from?

Mine appears to be the new format with water cooling holes and holes in the motherboard tray for routing cables. Got it a couple of days ago from Newegg. It shipped from California.

I definitely need to get one of these. Would address my main complaint about the case and that was cable management.

just got mine from the newegg TN warehouse and it has the fan controls, motherboard adjustments, and even the notch in the frame is already there. however i am going to cry because as soon as i took the side panel off one of the plastic hooks snapped off :( but all in all, it came in perfect condition, all the p182 changes, and on time. now i wait for the rest of my new parts to take one extra day from the california warehouse.

Hooray, I got the case with the P182 changes. Naturally, YMMV, but there's a $50 rebate from the egg and the paypal10 code for $10 off shipping.

this is the p180, but they put all the new stuff they have on the p182, yet no gunmetal color, or new door(i think the p182 gots a different door). so i think i was right all along

Saw it at frys. When are they going to put the damn lower 120 in FRONT of the hdd's?

Yeah, I've been wanting that too. Looks like all I can do is add in/replace all the fans with yate loons. I've been searching for pictures of how people modded them but most of them were dead.

yateloons are great fans

Yeah. I just need to figure out how to make dual front intakes. Does anyone know how to take out that middle fan in the psu chamber? I don't really know because I can't really get to the screws, it's hard to explain. I'll probably put a picture up or something.

If I were doing this, it'd be tool time for sure. Swap the middle fan cage w/ the front HDD cage and you shouldn't compromise the integrity of the case. It might take a little work, but the rewards for blowing cool air over a pack of wild raptors would be well worth the effort.

FWIW, I've got a 4HDD's packed in the Stacker cage w/ a single 1200 rpm 120. They all stay around 27C-33C depending on activity. The same fan using an exhaust config P180 w/ similar drives yielded a 7C-10C increase across the board.

From what I can understand, you are saying to remove the psu/lower chamber fan cage, and put that in the front to accomplish having front dual intake fans? I have never thought of that but it would seem like it would work. I'd check it out but I need to figure out how to take out those screws that hold all those things but they don't seem like.. normal screws. They are pretty uber small and so have no idea how to take them out. I'm pretty newbie at this.

anyone knows when the p190 will ship?it is longer and does provide more space for the 8800 series cards.

Just saw the P182SE... <drool> I need to go change my pants.

*I have the P180 and love it but damn is the P182SE sexy  :p.
