My Antec P180 came with only 3 brass standoffs, is that normal? Seems like I will need more. Or do I not need them? There seems to be some standoffs that are soldered onto the case.

They are probably for where your motherboard holes are that don't already have standoffs.

My P180 came with three brass standoffs and the case had three holes where you could screw them into . . .

Ditto. My motherboard, the IC7-MAXIII, actually doesn't have an anchor hole for one of the welded standoffs. I tried prying it from the case, but decided that I was likely going to do some serious damage to the case before I budged the standoff. I ended up just putting a jury-rigged cap on the standoff since it made contact with the PCB and I didn't want to risk a short. Has worked for about a year with no problems. Not sure if you do a lot of builds and have spare standoffs available (I have a ton), but if you have a computer shop around, you can likely get some for next to nothing. I also like CyberGuys for spare parts like standoffs, jumpers, etc.

The P180 manual said "extra" standoffs that your motherboard doesn't use wouldn't cause a problem. Either way, I used all of mine.

I think mine came with about eight pre-installed, and plenty extra. This was from Newegg on 6/6/06

thats probably referring to ones that aren't covered up by hte pcb. Obviously if a standoff is making contact with traces there will be a problem...

Does anyone have any clue of how to take off the pre-installed standoffs? (or if its possible?)

I'm working on a really clean P180 mod and the DS3 doesn't use the standoffs on the far right, so I'd like to take them out if it's possible. Thanks.

I got 9 attached to the case and about 2048752085 in a bag.

My motherboard has 8 holes.
