I forget to check it every time I update Cat drivers, and I damnwell sure people moving from Nvidia to ATI in mass will have no clue.......

this setting to the best of my knowledge does absolutley nothing positive and can sap your frame rate to half of what it would be if it was disabled....getting crappy frame rates after installing a new driver version check this out then.

you say "to the best of your knowledge it does nothing," then say "if disabled, it can sap your framerate to half of what it could be"

simple explanation is that Catalyst AI has rendering tweaks that improve performance and should be left on "Advanced" unless rendering issues are observed.

Might wanna reread that, unless he had a ninja edit. He said does nothing POSITIVE and if enabled, it can sap your frame rates in half of what it would be if it were disabled.
Regardless of that though, I'm curious as to what you're trying to play/do that requires you to disable that.

If you are using Crossfire, just keep in mind that disabling Catalyst AI will essentially disable crossfire. This is true even on multiple-GPU cards such as the 4870x2 and 5970 where there isn't even a normal option to disable crossfire.

When I recently started using ATI I looked up a comphrensive guide for driver setups for CAT since I really wasn't familar with them, it's been awhile but I do recall that I was told to leave this off, every time I have left it enable and killed my FPS, I do not how this effects multi gpu setups but for single cards this setting which is enable by default does absolutely nothing but lagg the every living crap out of any app I run.

so can we get a third source that knows wtf this setting does and whether or not we should have it enabled? by default it seems to be set at standard.would be nice to know if it would actually improve performance or just screw with graphic quality.

could you elaborate on what "kill your fps" means. as well could you give us the source that your advice to disable this function is based on please. id love to read up on this.

Yeah, don't disable A.I. ....

If "everything is slow" and "lagg" with it enabled... there's something else wrong with your machine.

Also, try to avoid making wide, sweeping, generalized statements and you'll sound a bit more like you know what you're talking about.

Opposed to the generalized statement that you do sound like you know what you are talking about....okay then?

Forgive me for not having the same indepth knowledge of what is "AI' that the actual developers have, to the best of my knowledge and according to past experience even though it isn't worth piss to some people, AI' under ideal circumstances tweaks automatically numerous driver settings determined by unknown factors, would you trust software to tweak your operating system or overclock your cpu and ram? Too many variables imo for software which has restricted parameters to cover the gaps , anyway all I do know for a fact is that throughout the 4xxx and 5xxx series my frames per second have drop greatly and this has corralated with just updating drivers which has the setting enabled by default and by disabling AI' the frames increased to what had been close to the norm for me previously.....aka 50fps back to as much as 120 fps DEPENDING on the software.

I was just trying to pass along what could be some useful information, lesson learned, I will keep any and all suggestions, tips etc to myself because they may not be a 100% accurate and could be precieved as WIDE,SWEEPING, and GENERALIZED.

You do realize that this statement is, itself, 'wide, sweeping, and generalized,' right?

And I agree with above posters that you should read a bit more about this setting before making such statements.

I tested Standard and advanced and i easily lose alot of fps. i go from 50fps in crysis down to 35 ish.

All it takes is a little research to decide if this setting is for you or not, simple as that, i am sure it has it's benefits and it doubts, i WOULD trust ATi developers to know what it best for %99 of the population vs a forum poster, unless you worked for said company, the issue is...........is us, the other %1 who may know how to make better use of said functions and apply the best setting to our small market share, gaming settings :d

All the Catalyst A.I. is a set of optimizations used by AMD for a particular game. The Standard setting will only do tweaks that don't affect the image quality, the Advanced will be more aggressive and could, in theory, have a lower I.Q. In practice, there isn't any difference in image quality, At least not that I've been able to see. The recommended setting is to leave as it is, on Standard, and only turn it off or to Advanced if your are having issues.
