New version of Overclockix live CD distribution. http://overclockix.octeams.com
You'll need a bittorrent client to download the iso.

Features for folders-

Fold without a HDD!

Launches 2 folding clients at boot using wine as background processes
Easy to configure client.cfg files and flags
Restart folding service with winefold command
Samba share preconfigured for EM3 monitoring (only works if installed to HDD or using persistent home feature) //hostname/FAH
Installable, preconfigured to be used as a folding LTSP server for PXE-booted clients (instructions included)
Superkaramba folding monitor themes display folding progress transperantly on your desktop

Based on Knoppix 3.7. Kernels 2.6.7 or 2.4.27, KDE 3.3.1, Openoffice, media players, chat clients, firefox, no machine/vnc/remote desktop, captive-NTFS, knoppix firewall... to much to list!

Looks nice! Kudos on another great release!

How does the superkaramba folding monitor applet get its information from the net-booting clients? (or does that only monitor the local ones?) Http or in a similar manner to EM3? The client I've been working on doesn't do smb, only http, but it fits in 4MB :D If you'd be interested in including it in future releases, I'd be more than happy to contribute... PM me if you're interested, or just to tell me to shut up and stop threadcrapping..

I'll eventually have a similar distro out, but in 50ish MB size, for those poor souls on dialup... Oh, and not as pretty. :( Me != graphic designer.

When it's used as an LTSP server, all the folding directories are on served from the server's HDD to the client machines via NFS, so superK just monitors the folding directories locally. It's not a particularly advanced kind of monitoring application, as it shows progress by % and not frame by frame (think 400 frame tinkers)... For some reason it doesn't update as often as it should, but it works and you can manually refresh it by right-clicking. And if you're adventurous enough to reconfigure it and setup samba or nfs mounts, you can monitor clients on other machines. There are about a dozen superK themese included, and a handful of them have the folding monitor integrated with other things like xmms controls, hardware monitors, system information, etc.

quick ?, launching two folding clients in a non SMP system is counter productive...yes?

So what you're saying is that I can build a small server with a HDD... (arriving today via FedEx, thankfully).... and then build diskless PCs that would netboot (or hotwire boot) and download their client from the server?

I planned on setting up Redhat Fedora on this new PC arriving today, but I may have to give this a try... I'm about 5% confident in what I can do in Linux (as opposed to the 90% confidence I have in what I can do in Windows)... The last time I messed with Linux it was Red Hat 7.0 or 7.1... so I've been out of it for awhile now...

Is it possible to monitor Linux based clients with EMIII (from a windows box, my main PC)?

Keep on Folding!!

I was wondering, does this work fine for SMP systems? If you have a FAQ or something that answers questions like that, I'll take a link for it.

I only mention this since I have not really messed with any *nix type setup and I have a dual PII 266 system that I woudn't mind trying it out on. I may eventually turn it into a file server or something at my friend's house where it currently resides but for the moment it is doing nothing but folding.

Actually AMD's tend to get a 6% boost and P4's with HT a 20-30% boost in folding performance when using two clients. If you want to disable the second client though for a slower box its as easy as

foldoff
rm -rf /home/knoppix/FAH/server2
winefold

Be mindful of ram useage if you want big packets. Running out of ram while booted from CD will corrupt the wu. For this reason big packets=yes and -advmethods flag are not set by default.

Probably should include this as well, to change FAH client configuration, edit the user/team in the config files:

/home/knoppix/FAH/server/client.cfg and /home/knoppix/FAH/server2/client.cfg

To change flags used, edit the files:

/home/knoppix/FAH/server/flags and /home/knoppix/FAH/server2/flags

Then restart the folding service with the command-

winefold

Why wine? On tinker work units, the windows client seems to out-perform the linux client by a small margin (around 7-12%).

Even the smallest folding performance gains are taken into account in this release. And since its useable as a PXE-farm server, you'd want to get the most out of a setup like that, now wouldn't you? If you install to HDD to use the LTSP server setup, I recommend the debian style install choice.

You find some notes about using this OS for folding in the Info folder on the KDE desktop.

Looks like some nice work, but no bittorrent here to get it, sorry.

SMP capablility=yes

I'm trying to upload to an ibiblio mirror for those who can't use bittorrent.
