Overclocking with AM2

What's a good combo for AM2. I just realized that since i just got my new mobo, CPU, and another mobo (which is being sent backbecause it's broken) I can send all 3 of them back and get around $200 for them.

I'm going to try to figure out what a good AMD AM2 CPU is for overclocking. I have sufficient cooling with my Zelman 7700. My 4200+ (939) gets about 40c with a load. I also have a 600w PSU so power shouldn't be a big issue.

This CPU/Mobo will cause me to get more ram because all I have is DDR 400 (PC 3200 I think).

If possible, i'd like this mobo to be able to support the 2 fans i have in my case that must plug into the motherboard. My old ASUS A8N5X had a 3 pin Sys Fan right behind the USB ports on the MoBo and another one right up front. That would BE PERFECT for me if you can find one that fits the above requirements but as long as it has one 3 pin connecter (besides the CPU's) it should be fine.

What these will be used for:
-Light Overclocking by a person somewhat new to overclocking
-Gaming
-The regular stuff: AIM, XFire, Graphics, Music, Movies, ect.

Please find them on www.newegg.com if possible becuase I usually always order from there.

Thanks.

How about Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe and AMD Athlon X2 4000+ (Brisbane core)? It should overclock pretty well. But you'd also need a decent cooler if you want to overclock to 2.8 and above and DDR2 RAM which you don't have.

BTW, the first board BIOS was rather picky about the RAM, but maybe the later series have newer BIOS version.

I have a EVGA 590 SLI and I love it. I was able to go from 2GHZ to 2.4 but I have water cooling too so expect 2.3

Eh? Is a 400mhz increase a large overlock on newer X2 cores or something?

I have a 400mhz clock just because I don't really need the extra power. I have the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe and the 5600+ which I have gotten up to 3.5 but higher temps which I did not like so I droped it down. It is a very good MB and it will be phenom compattible

evga 590 mobo + 3800 x2 (1.9ghz) brisbane

running 300 fsb = 2900 ghz with gskill ram

on air cooling, arctic cooling hsf

Edit:

Plus I'd need a new CD Drive because I have 1 IDE hard drive plus my Other Drive is IDE aswell and it's cheaper to replace then my HD. The board only has 1 IDE and 1 Floppy, is there anyway around getting a new CD Drive? Floppy Adapter?

Edit 2: Actually I decided to go with Corsair XMS2 Ram instead of the GSkill. That brings my total to $353. It will be about $310 after rebates.

Well, you can get a USB external bay for DVD or the 80 Gb HD.

Why are you getting the Windsor core CPU? I would recommend the Brisbane core (4000+ or 4400+) because it works on lower voltage and overclocks much better.

Maybe i'll buy that brisbane. They have a 4200 with brisbane aswell.

So do you think I should just buy one of them and when I get my 4200 Windsor send it back for a refund or should I just stick with the 4200 windsor?

If I buy one, should I get the 4000 or the 4200?

Keep in mind i'm VERY new to OCing. I have a Zalman 7700 (120mm) so I assume that's good enough to OC.

well basically I have 939 stuff that i Just bought to fix my computer. It just dawned on me for like $20 more I could RMA that stuff back and get AM2 equipment so I said what the hell.

I'm really not trying to build something to destroy all other computers in benchmarks. Basically waht I want is:

a) something that will work in my computer, my other stuff had some compatibility issues

b) something that will last me for a year or so. I have college within a year and I don't really want to dish out $100+ on a CPU. I rarely game anymore and when I do it's "old" games like Counter-Strike: Source which I ran on HIGH settings with my OCed (single core) AMD 3700+.

This will hopefully be the last thing I change on my computer (that can't be carried over to a future build like a fan or PSU) before I build something new. I'm also getting a laptop in the next few months so I don't want to put alot of money into my computer at this point.
