This is the new system I just ordered, I've got 3 q6600 system's already but I'm not impressed with their perf. lately so I'm going to try this (note this is a cad workstation)

ASUS Maximus II Formula
NVIDIA Quadro FX by PNY FX 3700
Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply
Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case
Zalman CNPS9700NT Copper CPU Heatsink 110MM Fan
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition 64BIT DVD OEM
2x OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-15 DDR2
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Quad Core Processor LGA775 3.0GHZ Yorkfield 1333FSB

I was in a bit of a rush when I ordered so research was limited - let me know if I made an oops somewhere.... I went for the 9650 versus the 9550 after learning that I was likely unable to get an e0 stepping at this time.

Thanks,

Kandor

Hows CAD with a Gaming Graphics Card? is Quadro really that super duper?

That PC will be a great overclocker. The only thing I'd be worried about is the heatsink being inadequate for really high overclocks, but aside from that it looks pretty sweet.

@superfire: CAD with a gaming card can be ok - it'll work, with a quadro it'll be great - quadro's suck for games (try 2-6 fps on a $900 vid card) but they rock when you have 20 seperate files open where each has a seperate ogl viewport. It's a constant irritant that I need a completely seperate computer for gaming (my e6400 with a gtx280) because of the differences between a quadro and a gaming card.

@Zero82z - thanks, what do you think would be better for hsf? I've been in a zalman rut and my research is out of date.

Depends on your budget. The Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with a fan is pretty much at the top of the heap, but it's also very expensive for a cooler. The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and OCZ Vendetta 2 have nearly top-level performance and are quite a bit cheaper. I would recommend any of those three depending on what you want.

ps - I just realized I order ddr2 800 out of habit, should I look at changing it to a higher freq i.e. 1066 or something?

+1 for the Xigmatek S1823. Has my little brother's E7200 at 3.8ghz 32* idle and 62* load.

Yeah, probably. The DDR2-800 will only be good for stock operation up to 400MHz FSB which isn't very much. DDR2-1000 or 1066 is rated for 500MHz or 533MHz FSB, so you wouldn't really have to worry about being limited by RAM speed.

But if I change the ratio down I can go higher right? I bought 8gb's of the stuff, but I have 3 other quad's I can put it in if I decide to buy a higher freq.

ddr2 800 is fine in my dual core at an fsb of 1600 , I just set the initial ratio down so that when the bus is clocked up it comes back to stock. But I guess this is what you mean by limited to 400 - since that is what my dual's fsb is clocked to.

Thanks,

Kandor

Exactly. You won't be able to set your RAM to run at a lower speed than the FSB, so in order to guarantee the ability to go beyond that point, you'll need faster RAM. The DDR2-800 will be able to overclock to some extent, but considering you're getting an E0 chip, you'll probably end up being somewhat FSB-limited. I assume you intend to overclock by a fair amount since you aren't satisfied with the performance of your current quads, so ideally you'd want the faster RAM.

Ok, I was able to change my order for ddr2-800 to this:

2x Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-8500C5 4GB 2X2GB PC2-8500 DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Memory Kit

Hopefully that will allow enough headroom.

I've read and researched in a lot of reviews that the Tuniq Tower 120 beats the BT; that's what I'm heading for personally.

-Edit
Errr...maybe I shouldn't throw my opinion around here, lol, seeing that all your Website statuses are years ahead of mines...

wow..baller status with a quadro card..hope youll like it ^ ^ im just too poor...

Yep, that'll do it. Getting into those kinds of FSB speeds, you'll be more limited by your motherboard than by the RAM, but at that point it won't even matter.
