Overclocking mobo FSB to match e6550... possible?

I have an ECS nforce 570 mobo that supports up to 1066 FSB and have been running a c2d e6300 now for a while without any problems. However, I tried putting in an e6550 which runs at a 1333 FSB and the computer didnt even POST. So I put the e6300 back in and updated bios but still no go. After reading around I realized that it must be the FSB mismatch. So, now I'm thinking that if I could push the mobo to 1333 FSB (333 x 4?) with the e6300 in it and swap the e6550 back in then it should work. What do ya think??? would it work or would I fry something in the process?

I'm using DDR2 667 memory which I think runs just fast enough for the e6550.

thanks!

edit: not sure if this would fit better into the motherboard forum

First, thanks for including the link and the nice description of what you are trying to do, great post.

Unfortunately, I think you are in the same boat as I am. Checking the bios updates and the cpu support list for your board, the bios has not been updated to support 1333MHz (333MHZ FSB) processors. I agree the board could probally do it, but without the bios update it is just not going to work. My board also has not had bios updates for the 1333MHz cpus, a Gigabyte DQ6 that is capable of running a 470FSB and has done so for over a year, however a couple of tries with different 1333MHz buss processors have had no luck at all, will not boot.

Hope I am wrong with your board, but think not. If the cpu is not recognized at POST it just refuses to boot.

thanks for the response Bill... I'm gonna try this as soon as I get home and will report back. not keeping my hopes up though... I don't know if the upgrade (e6300 to e6550) is worth the $100+ a new mobo will cost me.

any other input/previous experiences welcomed.
