My bios keeps disabling the CPU settings i put it. Anyone else have this problem. Is there something over riding this and turning it off?
 
If the settings cause the system to be unstable at boot, it will attempt to start up and shut down twice before reseting the settings to stock.

Is this what is happening? Or are you booting fine and your settings aren't saving at all?
 
Is it showing the CPU speed at 100mhz? And no matter what change you input, the system boots with stock specs? Yeah, I had that problem too. If this is the case, yank the battery for 5 minutes or so, then replace. Should fix you up.

I have the same problem. I've posted the same issu on every forum,but my issue maybe that i have a different ram 2x1GB-Geil and 1x1GB-OCZ. I have to remove one and see if it works.
I also have to try trick with the battary.

I'll keep u posted.

It attemps to start, gets to flash screen and then shuts down and start again.

Sounds like you might have ram settings that the system doesn't appreciate. If you set your timings too low, voltage too low or frequency too high, the system will power up, shut down, power up, shut down, then reset all options under Intelligent Tweaker to Auto. Your original settings will be saved, but grayed out until you switch back to Manual. If this is the case, just try some looser timings, increase your vdimm 0.1v (if not already high) or simply lower the frequency (by changing the divider to 1:1 for starters).

It could also indicate a bad dimm. Try booting with one stick of ram at a time. The different ram certainly could be the problem, as well. There is a setting the bios adopts when you attempt to do so, Flex or something, but it's certainly not ideal. If the two different types require different stock timings and voltages, that could be causing issues.

But you my be right about diffent ram brands.
 
Yeah. I've never tried running different brands of ram together. If they require different settings, not sure how the bios would handle that. Would it choose the highest necessary settings? The settings required for whichever dimm happens to be in the first slot? I have no idea.

With the GA boards, you don't actually see the divider in the bios. You instead see multipliers. Set it to 2.00, that will result in 1:1. If you choose some other ram multiplier and want to view the actual divider, check it out under CPU-Z once you (hopefully) get into Windows. For instance, 2.50 will result in 5:4. Don't fret over the math, just be sure the multiplier you choose doesn't result in some crazy ram frequency that will cause your bios to default to Auto. These settings will be under Intelligent Tweaker. Be sure to hit Ctrl-F1 in the main bios menu first, or you won't be able to tweak your ram settings.

Removed my ram, but it didn't help. Still boots 2 times and reset OC back to "DISABLED"
I've changed Memory diver to +3.0 and now it shows 3:5 @ 333.3MHz.

I see memory settings without clicking Ctrl-F1. I tried to click but it doesn't show anything "extra.

Your CPU frequency is only 100. What CPU are you using? Surely it packs more punch that a 1GHz. :) What is the stock setting? 266?

Because your ram frequency is tied directly to your fsb (cpu host frequency), your poor 800mhz ram is massively underclocked with the CPU at only 100mhz. Try to set everything to stock and boot with one stick of ram. To take the guesswork out of it, under Intelligent Tweaker, set the following to "Auto": Clock Control, System Memory Multiplier, System Voltage Control.

If that doesn't work, you can try selecting "Optimized Defaults" from the main bios menu. It'll set everything back to stock defaults. At least then, if it works, you'll know it's not some setting you've altered.

Let me know if your CPU Host Frequency retains any changes you make, or if it keeps setting the freq to 100mhz. That could mean you need to yank the mobo battery for a few minutes. Some will say to set the jumper to clear the CMOS, but that doesn't seem to work in the case of this particular problem.

i got e2180 and default is 200. if i change back to 200 it does the same thing. I also did clear CMOS and nothing.
 
Did you set everything to Auto? And boot with only a single stick of ram (preferably one that you're certain is working properly)?

If you "unlock" the setting to change the FSB, even if you put it at the stock FSB for the CPU, it will do the double boot and go back to stock settings. I have no trouble changing anything else overclocking related. Memory speeds change fine as well as voltage and PCI-e frequency. It's just the FSB that I can't do anything with. Even underclocking will cause it to do the same thing.

I ordered one and a Q6600. I have to run the CPU at stock speeds for the moment because the goddamn motherboard won't allow me to change the FSB.

What I find interesting is that I built a system for my friend using this exact same board and I had no trouble overclocking my old E6400 on it. I get one and I can't do a damn thing with it. Sure, it runs great at stock speeds but I wanted the damn thing to overclock. I also have the DS3R version in my main system and it has that quad running at 3.6Ghz with no sweat.

My board came with the F7 BIOS and I've tried every one from I believe F4 through F8a with the same results no matter what. I snagged the BIOS off of my friend's board (in case it was a bit different somehow) and it didn't do any good either.

I'm going to sell the motherboard to another guy wanting to build a system and I have an Abit IP35-e on the way. I was really disappointed with this since my DS3R overclocks really well as does my old P965-DS3.

I've done a bit of research and a good number of people seem to be having the same problems but no one knows the cause of it or any fix to it. Supposedly, some people have let the system sit running for a few days and then were able to overclock. I've never seen anything like this before but to me it looks like a hardware/BIOS issue that doesn't affect every board. It makes me think there are some "bad" boards out there which have a hardware problem which doesn't allow them to overclock.

Hmm. I see Ctrl+F1 kicked in this time, we can see your ram timings now. What's the stock voltage of the ram? The GA boards do not actually show the current voltage of the ram, just the amount you can increase it by. I believe ram defaults to 1.8v. If you need, for instance, 2.2v (like my Crucial Ballistix), then you need to bump the DD2 volts to +0.4v.

Other than that, it looks like everything is pretty kosher in your bios. 5-5-5-15 is nice and loose, no probs there. Running stock 800mhz. So you're probably right, barring undervoltage, it's prolly not a ram issue unless one or more of the dimms are bad (assuming you're still not running two kinds of ram side by side, which I'm sure will cause probs).

Like SmokeRings has said, it might be a hardware issue with the board itself. Try "re-locking" the CPU fsb, Disable the CPU Host Clock Control in other words. See if that helps.

I'm really just grasping at straws now. Is your PSU up to the task? Is this a new build? When you set the System Memory Multiplier to Auto, what is the frequency?

Whether you decide to return or exhange, you will have to RMA if you ordered online. It's the way places like NCIX process refunds/returns.

Deeky, that's the issue, I can't Enable CPU Host Clock Control.
It always resets back to Disable.

I fixed that issue by yanking the battery. Generally, when a system with a Gigabyte board attempts to boot twice, and then resets the bios to Disabled, that usually indicates an issue with the ram or an improperly oc'd processor.

However ... I'm runnin' out of ideas, dude. Sorry. I guess RMA is the next best thing, assuming you've tried everything else. Just know that RMAing through the manufacturer tends to take FOREVER, in my experience. Usually better to RMA through the retailer.

I tried your trick with battery, but it didn't work either. I called Gigabyte tech and they said that they'll call me back tomorrow.

Do you think Abit IP35-E better? Ever had it before ?

Technically, it would be incorrect to RMA the board since it runs just fine at stock speeds. It may not overclock and if you're like me, that's what you wanted to do with the board, but it's not technically faulty.

I'm selling this DS3L to a guy, who doesn't overclock, that's wanting me to build him a system and I'm picking up an IP35-e instead. I know someone with an IP35-pro and he loves it. If it wasn't for this non-overclocking issue, I would have no problems with this board. Out of the 4 Gigabyte motherboards I have, this is the only one I've had trouble with. I have a 690G AM2, a P965 and the P35-DS3R and they all overclock and run great.

For some reason, this DS3L basically freaks out anytime you try and set the FSB manually and reverts everything back to stock. I can come up with no explanation for this.

Hmm. Well. Sorry to say it, but I've run out of suggestions. If you've reset the CMOS, if you're using ram you know is good, if all of your settings are stock and auto, assuming all of your connections are correct and everything is seated properly ... I just dunno. I guess it's RMA time? Though SmokeRings has a point, if the board actually works at stock, they might reject the RMA. It's up to Gigabyte and/or the retailer, I guess. Sorry we couldn't get you sorted.

You might have to increase voltage for your ddr, if the mobo doesn't like your new settings it will default to its original settings...I would recommend this thread...it contains some very useful info on i.e. howto setup baseline settings....

IMHO OC is a hobby that takes lots of time, you have to tweak your system till you find the right settings, every cpu, mobo and dimm are different, some overclock better than others....
