Im going to be getting an core 2 e6300 1.86GHz and ill eventually want to oc it to 2.8GHz. I dont know how to oc so if someone can provide a guide that would be nice.
But im worried about the cooling.
I will have a heatsink + fan that comes with the processor, a fan that comes with the motherboard, 120mm rear fan, 120mm side fan, 120mm front fan. Will this be enuff to keep it cool?
 
my experience with the sandard cooler is that it is pants. ive had it one day and ive already ordered an arctic freezer 7. that looks to be a great cooler, plus its only £15
 
I have my e6300 overclocked at ~2.9ghz w/ stock cooling
idle is 47C
Load with Orthos is ~58-59C, sometime it spikes to 60C

not so great imo
im looking for a new cpu cooler now :p
 
Put your FSB speed to 400mhz and set your RAM to DDR533 speed (at that FSB that will be DDR2 800). Adjust your CPU voltage as necessary to have the CPU be stable. That's about it.
 
ive got the 6300 on ds3 running at 3.15 stable (3.3 chrases randomly during intense 1337 gaming) im using the artic freezer 7 and patriot 667 ram. u can hit higher than 2.8, go for it. i hit 3.0 on stock voltage. dont use the stock heatsink. in my case it would sputter and spin at around 600 rpms.
 
This is a mini guide that I posted based on my 965P-DS3. If you have a different mobo, your Bios will probably be a bit different:


First, do a visual and hands-on inspection and make sure everything is hooked up correctly, HSF is seated securely, ect...

From the main Bios menu hit [ctrl][F1] to access the Ram timings.

Disable Virtualization
Disable EIST
Disable Smartfan
Set your vCore to 1.325v (manual settings) - The bios will get all red and blinky and imply that you're going to blow up your computer. Ignore this. 1.325v is the stock voltage on this board.
Set PCI-E to 100 or 101mhz (setting to 101 sometimes helps with unstable systems)
Set PCI to 33.33mhz
Set vDimm to +.1v to start. As you overclock the ram further and it starts to get unstable - you can test this with memtest86 - you may want to go to +.2v
Go into your Ram timings (bottom left option in Bios menu)
Take the first set of timings off auto and manually set them to 5-5-5-15. (or whatever default settings are.) Again, as you overclock your ram, you may need to loosen the timings, i.e. next step might be 5-6-6-16.

Set your fsb - raise it in small increments.

F10 and save.

Test for stability, reboot, up the fsb.

rinse and repeat til you hit your wall.
