This is my first serious attempt to overclock my 3400+ Clawhammer. It's got an XP-120 sat on top and goes from 34-36C idle to 44-45C load. I've got OCZ Platinum Rev 2 RAM at 2-2-2-5 timings.
I bumped the HTT to 220 and it wouldn't hold. I've slackened the timings on the RAM to 2-3-3-5 and it seems good - I've done no hard testing, but a few benchmarks and all seems good at 2420Mhz, temps at 46C.
I tried for a 230 HTT - no luck at all. I pushed the CPU up to 1.6v and still no luck. I have reason to believe (reviews) the RAM will hold these timings into the 240s so I've left that alone. I tried an HTT of 225 and it hung. On 1.575v it lasted a few seconds. On 1.6v it lasted longer again, but not enough to check the temps were good (I assume they'll be ok still)
What is the next best step? Keep pushing the CPU voltage up to see if I can get stability, or is the risk likely to outweigh the returns? I was hoping to hit 2.6Ghz (gotta aim high), but don't want to be flogging the balls off my CPU so it breaks in two weeks.
