Can it be done? I see no option in the bios menu, perhaps through some driver utility? I bought to unit to play older games while on the go and i just found out how much of a resource hog dosbox actually is. Its seems anything less then a 2 ghz cpu is going to give you problems in certain games. If i knew that i would have waited before buying a netbook, darn it. If i could push the CPU up to at least 1.8 ghz it might solve my problems.

Well, it seems that utility you linked to doesn't work. Changing values doesn't seem to get a corresponding effects, at least according to CPU-Z. Am i out of options?

[edit] Nevermind, it seems to work with the Brazos. Yet, even after setting my CPU to 2.2 ghz, i'm still unable to run dosbox games at full capacity. What a bummer.

Ok, this is weird. I just set my CPU at 3.2ghz (???), but my games (namely, Daggerfall and Dungeon Keeper) are still running slow. Either CPU-Z is lying to me, or something is wrong here, perhaps some incompatibility between doxbox and windows 7.

i'd assume CPU-Z is lying to you.....i highly doubt you got the OC to 3.2 GHz, let alone 3.2 GHz stable...

Strange though, because i always used CPU-Z in the past without problems. Do you know of an alternative that might give me a more accurate reading?

Core temp = program ;) it gives you temp readings, as well as speed readings per core.

Try MSI-Afterburner maybe for the GPU? -- I highly recommend against OCing stuff in laptops unless it was designed to though

Ok, i'm confused as hell. Core temp tells me the exact opposite of CPU-Z. When i set my multiplier dividend to 1.0 (with Brazos Tweaker), CPU-Z tells me my CPU is at 1.6ghz, where as Core Temp tells me its at 3.2ghz. Where as if i set it to 2.0, i get the exact opposite. CPU-Z is at 1.6ghz, while Core Temp is at 3.2ghz. Temperatures stays at 63 degrees celsius either way.

Open CPU-Z and run something to load the CPU (SuperPi is a small download). CPU-Z should read the current CPU speed at idle and under load while calculating Pi with SuperPi.

What game(s) are you trying to run under DOSBox?

Daggerfall and Dungeon Keeper. I'm using Super PI now. Calculating at 32m. I get the same values with CPU-Z. 3.2ghz with a 1.0 dividend, while 1.6ghz with a 2.0 dividend. The exact opposite of Core Temp. I feel like i'm in the twilight zone here.

Ignore Core Temp. :p Calculate 1M places of Pi, which only takes seconds, and it should be obvious which one is correct.

Maybe you could try different emulation software like QEMU or VMWare Player instead of DOSBox? Neither of those games should be a problem for that CPU even at stock speed. Unless you chose DOSBox because you're running a 64-bit host OS.

It takes about the same amount of time to calculate PI with either setting, which means both CPU-Z and Core Temp are lying to me, i suppose. That sorts of sucks. It means Brazos Tweaker is not overclocking my CPU.

This is funny. Brazos Tweak won't over clock my CPU but it does down clock it. PI took twice as much to calculate on a lower CPU setting.

Probably because the chips have auto downclocking built-in to them but not auto-overclocking.

Well, either way, i'm going to give up on this laptop. Very nice unit for what i paid for it but i just need something a bit more powerful.

a single channel system is not going to see a significant increase in speed unless you can clock the crap out of your ram.....

I may only need a small amount increase, since i'm only having problems with one specific app (dosbox). Of course, the question is moot until i figure out HOW to overclock it. Nothing seems to work.

Doxbox runs like crap even on an i5 machine especially with some VGA and SVGA games
