Hi guys...i have the following bits:

Abit IC7-Max3, 2.8C P4 and 2moro i will have 1gig of corsair XMS4000 dual channel kit RAM.

I am cooling with just air for the time being...what i would like to know is what BIOS settings should i use to get the most out of that setup...

I plan to run the CPU at stock voltage, and up the FSB to 235 at least...higher if temps dont become a huge problem (which they shudnt if i am running at stock voltage right?)...what kinda settings should i be looking at for DDR voltages and anything else? Also will i be able to set my RAM timings aggressively with that RAM? Any other tips and info would be much appreciated, i am not a total newbie but would like to brush up before i start messing around again...

Regards,

Syphon

I also have the 2.8C chip - seems to be a decent overclocker IMO.

Anyway I pushed mine up to 3.4GHz pretty easily just with aircooling, and while you're correct about temperature not being too much of a problem at stock voltages, you do need adequate cooling. My temps went up about 8 - 10C under aircooling with that overclock, even when the voltage stayed the same. Just keep that in mind and you should be good to go. Putting the FSB at 235 with aircooling might make the chip a little unstable, so test this after doing it.

After installing my Watercooler, I'm gonna try pushing it to the 245 - 250 mark for a 3.5GHz clock. While I already know this won't work, it will give me something to do for a few days before putting it back to my old proven clockspeed.

stock voltage i get to around 3.3some odd mhz... i would pump some vcore up to get more out of yoru chip. My sl6wt's stats are below.

Go to the Abit forum. There is a nice bios guide there for setting up ic-7's,max2's and 3's.
Specifically, it helped me set my ddr sdram voltage and mem timings on my IC-7. You got to up the dramm voltage a little to o/c. I saved the whole guide after I got to 220fsb 1:1 no problemo.

Note on page 2 there is a link to a little program that verifys if PAT is enabled, neat.

cheers dudes....much appreciated...i should have my new RAM today and will be able to get cracking on this after i finish work.

Bah

this RAM doesnt seem to be all its crack up to be...i can only hit 235 stable with 1:1 divs....

I dont see what the issue is unless it is heat....i might try upping the RAM voltage to 2.8 and see if that helps, i wanna leave the CPU at stock voltages and keep the divs at 1:1 really...otherwise it kinda defeats the point of having this fancy pants ram....any other tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

upping mem voltage is a good idea with that ram. i think it needs more than what motherboards give it by default to run 250fsb. you might also try relaxing the timings.

Yeah dude.......rma that RAM and grab the Geil Platinum series pc4000. I was up and running smoothly at 260FSB and 1:1. This was w/ 2.5,7,4,4 timings. My processor ran out of steam before the RAM. Make sure to up your voltage to at least 2.8 (where im at)
