Guys,

I just wanted give you guys an update on our forum situation.

We are still trying to resolve the issue with MySQL. Even though the forums are up and running, they are not running at their best. Until we resolve the issue, you may experience, blank pages, SQL errors, temporary outages, etc.

It is impetrative that we keep the forums online during the time because we need to be able to duplicate the errors that are occurring so that we can find the solution (Also I don’t want any of you to have to go to the hospital because of withdrawals). Please be patient, I assure you that we are working diligently to resolved the problem and return the forums to “normalcy”. As things change, I will keep you informed and more importantly, I will let you know when the issues is resolved for good.

Hope its solved soon.

The good thing about [H]ard to fix problems is that you acquire experience and it will help you down the road.

If I get a blank page or an error does it leave a log entry somewhere for you, or do you want feedback on the site about problems?

Hang in there. I've had to solve problems like this before and I know how maddening it can be.

I often work very close to our dbas and know these database issues can be tough to sort out. Thanks for all of your hard work to resolve the sitch!

Good question, I've experienced a few problems when trying to load specific threads, while others load just fine.

I'd be happy to report any problems if it helps or if there is no automatic log.

Thanks for doing your best
(Also I don’t want any of you to have to go to the hospital because of withdrawals) totally me and most [h]ard members!!!

FYI - for those of you who get the "database error" screen when clicking a thread, click the refresh button on your browser and the page will usually load.
Normally this action would not work if the database were actually down. But under the current situation it does seem to work.

Thanks for the update. I was starting to think my router was buggered. But no it's your database that is :p Good luck fixing it!

Yes, well.... it might have been nice to have such experience beforehand instead of after the fact....

Should I PM a mod about my recently purchased Genmay subscription? I think I paid for it on the 10th and the database rolled back to the 3rd.

Forward your paypal receipt to kyle@hardocp.com and he'll take care of you. Mods/admins don't handle subscriptions, Kyle does that. :)

Be sure to put something like "GenMay subscription problem" in the title.

I sure hope they can restore the mysql database.

If that can be done, then does that mean the DB would roll back to 8/20/07 and we'd lose these last couple days of posts? Or would the 2 DBs be merged? I don't think the 17 days of posts will be recovered, but I suppose miracle can happen.

This is my question also. Should we go about our normal business and post new threads and replies, or should we wait for a possible recovery of this month's activity?

Go about normal business is my vote.

Sure, the DB was rolled back, but I'm sure that all the data was backed up, so it is possible for a restore.

But just in case it doesn't get restored, there is no sense in not posting.

It sounds like a merge between this database and the 8/20 one would be a simple thing to do, but as we've all figured out by now, technology can often be unperdictable. I wouldn't post any FS/FT threads without backing them up.

Are we back up? Seems to be it's having some issues still. Keep up the good work! It's loading a lot faster now

I am one of the unfortunates who donated for Genmay access and had my subscription rolled back with the DB outage. I'm willing to wait until everything has calmed down in the hope that my access is reinstated, but if it isn't, should I PM Kyle directly (as suggested in another thread), or talk to any friendly mod?

We DO NOT have a log of people by their nicks. You will have to send your PP reciept to kyle@hardocp.com and I will turn it back on by hand. Sorry for the issues. :(

welcome to the internet!!! :)

take your time :) a site this large problems are expected to happen, hitting f5 now and then wont stop me

MUAHAHAHHAHA

Good luck guys trying to figure this mess out. Don't want you pulling an all nighter during Labor Day weekend :D

Any new updates? Any luck with restoring backups? Or are the backups too risky to restore (assuming they were the issue that caused the downtime)?

A few thousand dollars later on specialized consultants....we have no idea what is wrong. We even looked at moving back to the old hardware and software, but we ran into some hardware issues when we spun the old server back up.......which is one of the reasons we moved, it was getting a bit long in the tooth and apt for failure.

At this point, I just don't have a clue what is going to happen. I am surprised it works at all.

Wow, that's expensive.... I guess this has been going on for a while though. Do you get a refund if they can't figure it out?

Anyway, hope everything turns out okay... Wouldn't want to see a great site like this go down. ^.^

You work that out with them and I will give you half...

And just to state....fixing the problem has never been a issue around here, but figuring out wtfing problem is always seems to be a mofo.

It sucks that you guys are still fighting with this and have no idea whats wrong.

Good luck, I hope you guys can figure it out. Sounds like a huge pain in the ass.

Sounds like you have one of those issues that's only solved by starting from scratch....only that is not an option. Frustrating I'm sure, especially after shelling out all the dough. Any way you can build a mirror image of the server and load the forum image onto it to see if the issue follows? I think hardware might be ruled out by now, but that's what I would try. If anything you can try that and if it doesn't work try to build the forums from from scratch on the spare, then move things over bit by bit.

It looks like it has been fixed in the last few hours, although there will be some more tweaking done tonight. Hell the last 30 day were cherry, till it shit the bed....

Yea, I was going to say its been running fine for about 3 hours now.

Will we expect to get any of the new features back? (qreply, time as member, etc.)
