OS on seperate HDD good for performance?

I am building a new system in the near future and was wondering If I put XP on a HDD or Raid Array by itself and have the rest of my programs on a seperate HDD or raid arry will it have better preformance?

If so... whatelse goes on that OS HDD? Drivers too? stuff like that?

i find that an os drive and a back up drive are enough. nothing other than programs is stored on the OS drive, so i can format without worry if something goes wrong. i dont know that i would worry about a seperate drive, let alone raid array just for programs...
 
you could just partition a drive... one partition for OS, one partition for your storage, one partition for your Program Files, one partition for your paging file...
 
Good performance can be had by installing the OS on 1 HDD, and the other HDD containing all your other programs, yes (the same applies for RAID). Basically you install the OS and other things that the system needs (such as drivers, system files etc.) onto one, and install all your other programs and stuff onto the other one. Performance does increase, because one HDD is reading the stuff from the OS, the other reading data from the program you are using, instead of trying to access both at the same time as one HDD will do.
 
Generally, the most cost effective way to do this is have one drive for the OS and programs while having another drive to run your swapfile on. I think the only time it would really make much of a difference in speed by having your programs on another drive would be possibly for games although I doubt it would do much.

As far as the RAID part goes, I don't have anything I can say about that since I have very limited experience with it.
