OS installation problems with SATA HDs?

I've been told by a friend that Win XP Pro can have issues installing to SATA drives on a brand new machine.

Anyone back this claim up and if I do encounter it, what's the fix?
 
do you have the sata drives on a fdd and hit f6 when the windows install says it
 
And you'll only have a few seconds to hit f6 right at the beginning of the install. Other than that there should be no problem :D

This completely depends on what motherboard you are using and where you are plugging them into. Please give more system info.
 
They mean to have your mobo's SATA drivers on a floppy disk so that windows can use them to install properly on your HD. :)

I don't actually have this yet, it's coming in tomorrow or Friday, but I was just trying to anticipate any problems. The motherboard I'm getting is the Abit Fatal1ty AN8-SLI.

As for floppy drives, I didn't get one with this system. Is this a problem?
 
fdd= floppy disk drive

and if u have certain sata controller u will need a fdd to use for the drivers for the sata controller on the board off the fdd duiring the windows install, actually the first few seconds of the install itll say hit f6 for other raid or controller card drivers bla bla

You have 2 options.

Option 1(Not using raid):
Plug hard drives into NF4 SATA and install windows, no drivers or anything needed. Everything works perfectly.

Option 2(Using Raid):
Press F6 when prompted. You will have to install the NF4 IDE drivers off a floppy disk. Just grab the one from your old computer or borrow one from a friend. Install drivers off of disk. Install windows normally.


You should have no problems either way. I have set up quite a few NF4 board in both raid and non-raid configurations using these methods.

I plan to RAID1 this machine eventually once I order more HDs(it has 1 now, I'm getting 3 more in about a month). Does this make a difference in how I install windows now? Or can I change this later? (never set up RAID before)

You can set this up as a non-raid machine. Once you have windows setup, then you can install the NF4 IDE drivers. When you get the second drive you can rebuild the Raid1 array, which basically means the raid array copies all the data from one drive to the other.
