Hi all,

I'm looking into an new video-card, but can't make heads or tales from it. I'm from the generation 4200GT, 6600GT, 9800gt etc.

At this moment I'm running my old 7600gt/td. I do a lot of photography, but this card works ok. Now however, i bought CoD Black-Ops, and I'm finding it hard, near impossible to play the game nice and smooth.

I use an IIyama 17" TFT monitor at resolution 1280x1024 @ 75hz.
Who can advise me for a nice affordable video-card that will allow me to play CoD at my monitors settings. I don't need to play with all the eye-candy on, like 8xAA etc. Just normal is good enough, as long as it runs smooth.

For the rest I'm using:

Asus P5Q-Deluxe board
3gb DDR2 @6400 ( going to be 8 or 12gb in the near future )
Intel Core2-Duo 6600 ( socket 775, looking for a new model in the future also )
Drive for game used wil be the OCZ Vertex 2, 60GB
PSU is the Coolermaster Ultimate 900w.

Who can give me a nice affordable advise. My budget lies around 100 to 175 euro's
Preferably i'dd like and Asus card, but not necessary.

XFX Radeon HD6850. Steer clear of Asus, their quality has been very suspect for the last few years.

OP, you don't seem to be in the United States. Please tell us what general prices are for video cards in your location, and/or where you would be buying it.

~$100: GTS 450 or HD 5750. These would be plenty for your current resolution, and would max out BO with 8x AA. They would handle upcoming games well, at your current resolution.

~$180: GTX 460 or HD 6850. If you will be upgrading monitors in the near future, to 1680 x 1050 or above, these would be plenty for that situation.

So it all depends on what resolution you will be playing at in the future.
 
pretty much any new card will do what you want to do... there hardly is a bad choice these days. it really comes down to how much you wanna spend, what brand you like, then looking at your choices.

The GTS 450 from either type of brand go from about €110 to 180.
The GTX 460 runs from €140 and up.
HD 5750 from €104 to 130
HD 6850 are around €175

The resolution in the future... As for now it will remain the same. When i buy a new monitor it is going to be an Eizo IPS panel, but that is many $$$$ away. Got other priorities.

So it seems any card from that series would work ok. What about the difference between the GTS and GTX in the same price range? Preferences? More gpu speed over more memory or something?
 
I tried to look at the website you linked, but had a hard time navigating it. You can look here to get an idea of the performance of the graphic cards you are considering.

Around 110 euros: The GTS 450, 5750, and 5770 will do a great job at your current resolution. They will do an OK job when you get a larger monitor in the future. I suggest buying the best one you can get for the price, because they are all very close in performance.

140 euros: The GTX 460 768MB will do an even better job at your current resolution. When you upgrade monitors in the future, it will do a good job even at 1920 x 1080.

I would suggest spending the extra 30 euros for the GTX 460, but you do not have to.

ASUS is a great manufacturer, I have used numerous ASUS motherboards and video cards without problem.
 
LOL at THAT resolution the ATI HD4850 will run everything at MAX and you can get one for what $50 on ebay.

Or a new 5770

AK makes a great point. If you can find any people selling used computer hardware, a 4850, 4870, 9800GTX, 9800GT, and anything along these lines costs HALF of a new 5750 or GTS 450. And at your current resolution you won't be able to tell the difference, your wallet would tell more of a difference than you would!

If you can buy used graphic cards, this will be the best approach, and would save you money.
