Ok I know ive asked this before. I am now having to set myself on a Budget cause I am building a new Rig. Im wondering Should I Snag the Sapphire 6950 2GB & unlock the Shaders or is there a little bit of a cheaper solution for my Res 192x1080.

Id like to stick with Single GPU cards only. ATI or Nvidia. I do Prefer Nvidia over AMD but I cannot justify the price of the 570 at this time.

6950 that unlocks with 2GB of vram is the best bang for your buck right now. Pick it up tonight and don't look back!

it seems to be the flavor of choice right now. looks like one helluva bang-for-your-buck card. go for it.

sucks because buying a new gpu limits my actual build so im stuck again with an AMD build which I didnt want to do.

If you can stand fan noise, than grab the HD 6950 2GB, but if it's an issue than spend the extra $50 & snag the GTX 570. Me personally I loved the 6950, but damn that fan was loud.

Why settle for AMD if it's not what you want? I dont get it. I'd be waiting if I were building a rig if I were you. I'd be waiting for Bulldozer and the Sandy Bridge fixed mobos to come out instead of buying a 955(just my opinion). As an owner of a 5960, you wont be disappointed, and I'm sure you wont be with a gtx570 either.

You could always upgrade your gpu right now, and do the rest when the new tech hits the market. Just my .02

The wife's birthday is coming up and i'm planning on getting her the 6950 2GB. Every site review i read shows the 6950 to be the best card for the cash at the moment. I just upgraded her E8400 to a QX9650 so her rig is going to kick balls.... not mine of course.

Save your money and don't settle for less.I spent 617 for my SB and I can still add one more card

I love my WC'ed GTX 480 and Nvidia's offerings, but AMD has some nice cards to compete. Don't let what anyone says about AMD's drivers get to you. Just look up some benchmarks and educate yourself. Looks like the 6950 is a good choice as well as the GTX 570. My brother has two 570's in SLI and is having a blast with them.

i built the same rig he suggested basically, AMD 955BE Quad with 4 gigs of DDR3 1600 ripjaw ram and a 460GTX

at the time i was playing on my 19" at 1440x900 native, picked up a 23" 1080 monitor tonight and was afraid it might not be able to handle it....but alas, Crysis, Hawx, BFBC2....didnt have to change any settings, everything maxed out running highest AA possible, etc.....no problem

There is nothing wrong with a PII 955. Great processor, O/Cable, and offers 80-90% of a high end I7 setup. It may not be the best, but its still a great setup. I am still rocking my 2 year old PII [email protected] :D

not to mention i was able to run mine at 3.7Ghz at 1.4v , 206 (small bump to base clock) x 18 (BE cpu means you can just change multi), oh and also run a 12x Northbridge multi for 2400Mhz NB speed....all in all this thing is beast man, running a little warmer than i want it to under the old tried and true Freezer 64 Pro...

I didnt settle for AMD I went with an i5 750 & ASUS P7P55D-E LX. I decided to do this build until next tax time when sandy is matures & bulldozer comes out.

I spent ALOT of tax money today paying off all my Debt. I am also not a big fan of ATI/AMD at all. I would prefer to stick with Nvidia period but the 570 price at 350 MIGHT be out of my reach at the price. Is there any other Nvidia card that will do 1920x1080 Nicely? I might get stuck buying used

At $260 AR on NewEgg, that 6950 2GB is a pretty nice deal (if NewEgg is an option for you). You could save an extra $20 by going with the 1GB version if you are really on a tight budget. You'd likely never miss the extra memory at 1920x1080 but you might have to run a lower AA setting than if you had the 2GB, not sure. Me personally, I'd spend the extra $20.

I dont know if im on a tight budget really I just was hoping to stay with Nvidia & snag a 570 but @ 350.00 I just dont know If I want to go that far. I know the 6950 2GB is a great deal also.

So im basically stuck 6950 2GB or the 570 @ 1920x1080. I dont know if its just me being older & wiser or just a penny pincher but I like saving money so I find 350 on one video card to be in my eyes not worth it. I wish I could stay around the 250 range but I know that wont happen

I see. I was in the same boat about a month ago, deciding between the same two cards. The lure of unlocking the 6950 sucked me in :)

If you want nvidia & @ $250, your looking at stepping down to a 560, which for 1x 1920x1080 shouldn't be all that bad.

i love my 5850 and u run all my games at 1920 x 1020 with an AMD 1050T at 3.4Ghz.

no reason to stick with NVIDIA, or ATI if your on the other side, get the best card for the money.

2gb Sapphire 6950 @ $260 after MIR, cant beat that! The 1gb will suit that screen. I have a 6950, and while gaming, I dont notice the fan being super loud like everyone claims it to be. If you crank it up to 80% on MSI afterburner, itll get loud, Idk of any video cards that dont though.

I just unlocked my 6950 today to a 6970 and yes, it really does give you the 6970 performance for about $100 less. I say WIN!

Buying a used 5870 might not be a bad alternative either. That card still kicks ass.

Used 5870? Hell you can get one brand new for 200usd AR now.

You're right the card does still run well too.

The one they tested above was only at 900MHz. The other cards were OCed too.

End user overclocking results with the 5870.

I'll vouch for a 5870! Been working great me for 1.5+ years now, and can do ok eyefinity gaming too! (Though I do turn down some eye candy for it) 900/1300 is standard, 1ghz+ is a good OC.

I agree, the 5870 the best bang for the buck right now since the prices came down so much.

The 5870 is a very nice card for $200, since it performs better then the 6870. For a non eyefinity res like that the 5870 is the card to go with, unless you are looking to get eyefinity later on then I would recommend something with 2GB like a 6950.

I was looking on Hardwareheaven & there comparison chart at my Res shows the 5870 & the 6950 pretty much identical to each other. It even shows the 5870 damn close to the 6970 but obviously the 6970 ahead alittle. So would it be best to pick up a 5870 for 200 over the 6950 since they are identical its about 100 in savings

6950 2GB: 290.00
5870: 200.00

I can eve get a 5870 used for around 180.00

i dont plan on leaving 1920x1080, going eyefinity or crossfire anytime at all. I am happy with a single Card/monitor solution.

So the choice is $200 AR for 5870, or $260 AR for 6950 2GB.

I love my 5870, but if I were in your position buying a card to last for the next year or so, I'd grab that 6950 2GB. The extra RAM may not benefit you much at this point, but the better tessellation performance might in current and future games. Not to mention all the other new features the 6xxx series brings.

The cheapest 2GB 6950 is a Sapphire for 283.00 newegg owes me 30.00 for a return on a bad product that I did just remembered so that extra cash will help. So I can technically get a 2gb 6950 for 253 shipped with a 20 dollar Rebate bringing it to 233 once said n done
