one last ? about an i5 build and how much MORE is an i5 build. is there any gaming difference between an i5 build and a 955 c3 Build and would going with a crossfire setup be worth it?

No real gaming difference between an I5 build or a 955 C3 build. Crossfire is only worth it if you need every ounce of gaming performance possible without any care for cost-effectiveness. In addition, you'd have to go with a Core i7 CPUsince it's been shown that Core i7 CPUs provide a major performance increase over AMD CPUs when it comes to Crossfire.

Oh and a Core i5 setup would cost about $40 to $50 more than your planned AMD setup.

wich setup would be more future proof? and if you were to build an i5 Rig what would you build. Could you piece an i5 for me? i dont need crossfire

one last ? whats the difference between a 770 board and a 785G board. any gaming benefits going to 785G?

Yeah no gaming difference or benefits. Most of the differences are related to HTPC usage.

k thanks. ill stick with the amd build. gonna order now. i cant wait to finaly get back into gaming.

i ordered everything i listed Except for the video card. from what i was reading on Jan 25th ati is coming out with a new card for the 200 dollar range. the 5830 that comparable to the 4890 so im going to see what that does before i make my final video purchase.

I also want to order an SSD + mounting bracket for my antec 300 so if you can give me some sound advice on that, that would be cool. im not sure what Size to get.

thanks for the info on the SSD. is a 40 GB ssd enough for anything and what is an SSD generaly used for.

ive also changed my build to an i5 build. i got a good deal on the build so i took it instead of the 955.

MSI P55-GD65 LGA 1156 Intel P55 - $159.99
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz - $150.00 Brand new from a friend of mine
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB - 93.00

Subtotal: $402.97 (everything for this build has already been ordered)

The difference from the 955 phenom build is only 23 dollars.

.

40GB is enough for the OS, misc software (Firefox/Chrome, AIM, etc small stuff like that) and 1-3 of your favorite games or high-end apps (photoshop, etc). An SSD provides significantly better load times than standard mechanical drives.

right i understand that so lets say i get an SSD install my windows 7 wich is 8GB and lets say i install WoW on my spinpoint f3 will it still improve the speed or does it have to be installed directly to the SSD.

im all for getting an ssd but im really debating snagging something larger so i can ditch my f3 for ssd

hey guys need some advice really fast. this is for my friend. He wants to build a Rig to play games with me so ive come up with a little setup around 330 dollars for him. He wants onboard video until he can save for a single 5850.

everything in my sig he has already bought except he has a 650tx corsair. i got his money in hand and he has 330 total. what do you think.

is the i3 530 Dual core faster then the 925 Quad core? also there is no onboard video. he wants to at least be able to use the pc till he gets his video card

Hey im sorry about that i forgot to post up the rig i was concidering for him. let me know what you think.

ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB
AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W

Total: 326

What he already has

Antec 300 illusion
Spinpoint F3 500GB
LG DVD Burner Retail
Corsair 650TX
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

The i3-530 has on board video, the Asus evo does not. The 925 and the EVO is a good choice, but there is no video output

Why not go with a cheap video card until he gets his 5850? Something like a used 9600GT would work fine for the time being and cost around $50, plus it will probably hold it's value nicely as people like them for Physx.

well for 330 bucks he isnt leaving me much or any much to work with and its only going to take him 2 weeks to get his 5850 since tax time is right there. he just wants to be able to power up the pc and use it till he gets the card.

im not a master at pc specs so im not even sure if the 925 is even any good

im going to wait to see what others have to say also. how bad is a 5850 or 5870 going to bottleneck on the cpu

The planned AMD setup you have now is a good choice. The 925 isn't that bad of a limitation for the HD 5850.

i just wanted to make sure. so going to a 5870 will bottlneck the cpu?

hes running a acer h233h 23 inch 1920x1080.

Somewhat. Though at that res, he or you will barely notice the "lesser" performance.

lol not for me. im building an i5 750 rig. after seeing what the intel i5 did to amd's 965 no way im going back to amd

he changed his mind on me and really wants a c3 955. the problem is i cannot get him into ddr 3 memory at 330 dollars. he wanted a list of CPU's and what cpu's were doing against each other and he didnt see the 925 anywhere on the list and seen the 955 up there so he asked if i could get him into the 955. Just let me know what you guys think. I know its ddr2 but i also know there isnt much of a difference between ddr2 and ddr3

i went through and ordered the same setup for myself. looking at money the i5 setup is a bit over priced for me. i will have some pics in a couple of days for you guys.

ok so im not 2 pleased with newegg or these drives anymore. I bought the f3 samsung and after 1 week it had a bad vibration. I ordered the Western digital 750 and the Drive is VERY loud and has a high pitched noise that is driving me crazy.

is this drive any good speed wise? or would you just try another F3

(Im not paying cash bestbuy gift card)

well you do know that most hard drives are gonna be noisy if they are performance drives, right? that comes with the territory

instead of throwing money at the problem for the noise factor, why not just keep the 500 GB and buy a SSD instead?

SSD's are dead silent.
