Ordered my 7970 from Newegg!

Bought my sapphire from newegg. Still remember XFX pulling a scam and removing the black bios switch on their "Revised" HD 6970's. Lucky that I ordered my xfx 6970 on day one, and got the reference version with the Bios switch, but ever since I saw XFX pulling that revised PCB scam without saying anything to cheap out, they lost a customer.

Can't afford it right now but this time around I am seriously considering skipping AMD just because of their driver (or lack there of) support recently. Waiting weeks after launch for proper Crossfire support and other issues.

Nvidia seems to be a bit quicker on the driver front.

Not sure how easy NVSurround is compared to Eyefinity though.

I was looking at the sapphire product page and their cards are coming with both an active and passive adapter for DVI-DP, are the other manufactures doing this as well?

I only checked into it because newegg has the shipping for the sapphire card at a dollar over the rest.

Agree that they have been a bit slow on the support side. Considering the architectural differences between the 5XXX and 6XXX series of cards, I was willing to overlook the time it takes for the driver team to get up to speed on the programming nuances of drivers for the new architecture. (just my personal opinion)

Do they still require more than 1 card for surround? (My recent nVidia purchases recently have all been integrated chips.

I got a sapphire 7970 card and, if kepler seems to be faster while being comparable in terms of power usage, I would most likely buy nVidia again. (I don't consider myself to be an ATI fanboi since my nVidia purchases outnumber my AMD purchases by a fair amount.)

Talk about brand loyalty.. the ASUS reference model is $30~$40 more than the competition. Must be one helluva sticker on that sucker.. it's sold out!

3 year warranty compared to the 2 year for most of the others (except XFX of course). That's probably part of it.

Ordered a pair of Sapphires last night after some waffling regarding the cooling solution on the reference cards. I'm RMAing my existing NVIDIA card and the RMA expires tomorrow so I need to pull the trigger on something. Glad I did so, as NewEgg is now entirely out of every 7970 card in their lineup.

"AMD is asking board makers to pack two adapters in the box with every 7970: one HDMI-to-DVI cable and one active mini-DP-to-DVI converter. That config should suffice for folks wanting to run a three-way Eyefinity setup on 1080p displays or the like, but I believe neither of those adapters support dual-link DVI, so folks hoping to drive multiple 30" monitors via DVI may have to seek another solution."

The active one is being required by AMD on these first batch of boards, the other one is an extra then so it will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

The XFX Black Edition lacks the active miniDP to SL-DVI adapter.

If amd is requiring these be bundled, looks like xfx is dropping the ball. Conversely, sapphire is putting every adapter and the kitchen sink in there lol.

Have to see what green's next move is though...If they manage to increase their thermals and power draw yet again in the next gen, I don't think I can stomach it.

I'm RMAing an EVGA 560Ti 448 core because of NVIDIA's inability to get it working with my new monitor through the DisplayPort conenction (which is required to do 120Hz). The 280.x series of drivers allegedly support this monitor but it's broken in the 290.x series. Unfortunately, the 280.x series doesn't support the 560ti 448 core cards which require the 290.x series. So I can either get an NVIDIA driver which will support my card, or one which will support my monitor, but not both.

The point being - both companies have driver issues. I'm just hoping with this purchase that I'll actually be able to use both my monitor and the video card, which would be a welcome change from where I'm at right now.
